If you’re expecting an overcrowded sports bar with big screen TV’s everywhere you look, just keep driving. This is a simple little place to relax and hang out. The atmosphere is chill, and the clientele are as well. (There are some big screens, but they don’t cover every wall like some places.) The first thing I noticed was how we were greeted when we sat at the bar. Jessica was probably the sweetest, most cheerful bartender we’ve ever encountered anywhere. And her knowledge of the different types of beer was excellent. They happened to have live music the night we went. Diane Cumberland was the musician, and her entire play list was a joy to listen to. Her voice will surprise you with a varied range of octaves throughout her performance. They also have a few games like darts, sand shuffle board, etc.
Now, down to business………….the beer they make there is such a wide variety of tastes, if you leave unsatisfied it’s your own fault. As mentioned in other reviews, the Mango Salsa was a delight. What I did NOT read in other reviews was the heat factor. It takes about 1.3 seconds before it hits you. If you enjoy heat mixed with flavor, give it a try. Jessica did warn me about the heat, but I enjoy the heat and was quite happy. A few of my other favorites were: Duck Duck Gooseberry, Key Lime Hefeweizen & Passion Fruit Sour. There is a good chance the Passion Fruit Sour will scrunch your face up. It starts with the great taste of passion fruit, then the sour sneaks up on you.
Overall, we were very happy with our first visit. We will definitely be back. They have many, many other beers I can’t...
Read moreI found this place on Groupon. I purchased it as a birthday gift for my father. We were super excited. As soon as we got there, the bartender had an extremely poor attitude. He made comments to other guests that we were “Groupon people.” First, if you hate “Groupon people” why are you on Groupon? Simply don’t advertise on Groupon then. Secondly, just because we are “Groupon people” doesn’t mean we do not have money. Actually I make over 200k annually but I came from a background of serving and understand the hard work it takes, which is why I had a $200 tip waiting aside for him. But after all the eye rolls, and simply ignorant comments and assumptions he received $15. Moral of the story is: people who are rude and judgmental stay where they’re at (ie the bartender) and people who are genuinely kind and treat every person without judgement are rewarded. SOO everyone reading this take your (hardworking veteran)...
Read moreIn my taxonomy, there is a spectrum of brew pubs, ranging from "Business Plan" breweries - where recruitment of the brewmaster is almost an afterthought - to "Destination" breweries, where the beer is of a quality to warrant scheduling a layover in a nearby'ish airport for the sole purpose of a side trip to have a pint or two. The Brewmaster at Side Door comes from a lineage of Kentish brewmasters dating back to Tudor England. The first beer I sampled was their FreudSchluck, an adroit blending of Viennese with English pub nuances... and it was immediately obvious this is a place where the beer comes first. And instead of watching the game du jour on TV it was interesting to see the Brewmaster working on a restoration of an old beer engine, for drawing non-pressurized cask ales. I'll be returning to Port St Lucie around November 1st when it goes into service for an English bitter...
