1873 Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Portage

We went in on Friday the 15th of March. We sat ourselves per the instructions given to us. It wasn’t super busy a few tables and around 4 people at the bar. We waited about 5 min before someone took a drink order from us (both just getting waters). The server quickly brought our waters back and took our order. I ordered a 2 piece baked cod with a loaded baked potato and my husband ordered a 3 piece fried cod with potato pancakes. For one I have never been more disappointed by a fish fry in my life. Both mine and my husbands meal took 30+ min to receive. When it arrived it was mostly cold. My fish was dry and my filets were only 2oz each making them the size of my hand palm. My husbands where no better. I asked for a loaded baked potato which comes with cheese, bacon, green onions and sour cream and revived a potato with no bacon and hardly any topping. This is upsetting because it was an up charge and not one that was worth it. It also contained a black hair. My husbands fish was cold, dry and rubbery. And his potato pancakes turned out to be one potato pancake and was only about 3 inches big. The coleslaw was drenched in mayo. The menu also stated you got backed baked beans and corn fritters and we got none of that. Neither of these meals where worth the price paid. Service was okay but none of the servers really looked happy to be there or to serve anyone. The place looks nice and clean but I could do without the jazz music in the background. We have been here twice and the service is terrible. This last experience was poor enough to upset our entire group and leave this review. I called ahead mid morning to let them know that we have a large group coming in, it would be roughly an hour before close. They said it would not be an issue. We arrived after our tubing session and they were short staffed ( which was an issue the year prior) and our server said we were his first table ever to serve. We ordered our food with other staff and my burger which was no cheese due to an allergy and was notified to the staff taking my order was incorrect and showed up with cheese. Ok it's a mistake, not upset on our end. The server then entered the kitchen throwing things around and yelling loud enough that the entire restaurant heard, as well as myself who was in the bathroom, that he was done and not fixing my order as well as many expletive rants. No person would ever want to hear what we heard tonight while going to a restaurant. We will never return. Business is lost from a large party that yearly comes to the area. I would never recommend a restaurant with this poor conduct and behavior. There are no excuses for that extreme behavior. Zero stars. Stay away. We definitely will try something new...

I would like to preface this review by saying this establishment is clean and the food was pretty good but a bit expensive. However !BULLY ALERT! Keesha, the bar bender took us to our seats and then another young fellow was put in charge of our table. He had no idea what he was talking about and he apologized becuase today was his first day. The bar bender left him to fend for himself as she stood behind the bar talking to her friend. During our 1.5 hour stay Keesha mocked and laughed at the new employee when he turned around, never once went out to help him take orders and was clearly annoyed when he came back to ask her questions. We were seated close to the bar and could see all of this with ease. The bartender brought over our bill when we went up and asked for it and she said she didn’t know she was supposed to be training today. I commend this fellow on his first day for his professionalism and grit. It breaks my heart to see a bully running the show. I will never return to this...
