We were really excited to cook on the hot stones! Initially chose the restaurant based on their surf and turf offerings, plus their vegetable options. We were going for healthy and were excited the calories were listed online. Arrived just after 6 on Sunday to a very full restaurant. I'd say decor was leaning upscale modern. The floor was very cool in it's vibrancy and splatter pattern. The black paint splatters gave grip to an otherwise slippery floor. Looked to be slightly quieter in the bar area, but we were in the more open back area and it was so loud it made my ears hurt. Also made conversing difficult. Did get better as groups and tables left. Warm and friendly greeting by receptionists, with no wait for a table. Seated on hard wood chairs at a 4-top as no booths were available. Both ordered the dynamic duo - 8 oz filet came as 4 medallions, and maybe 8 shrimp? Came with choice of soup or salad and one vegetable option. I asked if I could have 2 vegetables, and I could, but for a $2.99 uncharge. (Which I agreed to- when the check came, I was charged $3.99.) They did have options for sauce but the waitress didn't offer, and none of them looked low calorie. There were salt & pepper grinders on the table, but no other seasoning for the steaks. Would have loved some garlic, Blackened, coffee, or other dry seasoning options. We opted to cook our meat ourselves. Our stones did not come out the standard 755°F we were anticipating. My friend did wait for a replacement and got a sear on her steak once it arrived. I elected to continue and at it med rare with a gray pallor exterior. 75% if my medallions were very tender. One was chewy due to some connective tissue or marbling. Asparagus was great and enjoyed being able to heat up on the stone if needed. Baked sweet potato was very tender and juicy. Our shrimp was very disappointing. It came out on a corner of the stone in a mini crock, but was cold, and already overcooked in some seasoned melted butter. Didn't like the butter seasoning and the shrimp was so rubbery. Did heat up once the stone was hot, but didn't change the texture in a positive way. Thmmprovided butter and sauce was a terrible consistency and gross flavor, but we had regular butter to cook with from our potatoes. Very puzzled the table cooking setup didn't include tongs or an implement to cook the meat. Had to use same knife or fork to cook and eat with. Waitress was overworked but friendly. Would rate entire experience a 6.5/10, but would go back another time and make some adjustments like bring seasoning, make sure had hot stone, hope to get 2 veggies for initial price.

Visited for the first time for a birthday dinner yesterday. Went about lunch time and they was already getting busy. Waitress was great and attentive though, hovering us updates if anything was Taki a bit longer than normal. Everyone loved their food. From the appetizer to dessert. The fondue pretzels served on the stone was absolutely great. It was awesome having the two different cheeses served on the stones because it kept them hot till the very end of if to the meal. So instead of trying to scoop up old cold cheese like you normally would have to, we actually had to let it cool on the pretzel because it was bubbling hot a bit at the bottom of the bowl still! Two of us tried steak on the stones and we both declared it some of the best steak we ever had. Being able to control the cooking of each piece made it fresh and juicy and perfect. The waitress gave great instructions so we could each make sure our steak was cooked to our differing preferences. It was an experience we will remember and repeat. One member of our party stated that the max-n-cheese burger was a favorite of hers. She ate almost the entire thing (and it's rare she eats half her meal in usually) and portion size was big too! My husband really enjoyed the Moons Over My Burger that the "bun" was breaded mozzarella cheese. Sides were good as well. The sweet potato mash was so good I couldn't stop eating it, even though I was stuffed. (One that doesn't like sweet mashed potatoes even said it was great.) Fries were crunchy & not greasy at all, one of them better fries many of us had. Chicken tortilla soup was delicious. We had apple crisp included as a dessert with a special we got. Loved every bite. Since we was there celebrating a birthday we even got a unexpected free dessert they call the Volcano. It was a big towering dessert of delicious brownie topped with an inverted waffle cone of vanilla to ice cream, covered in whip cream & drizzled with caramel and chocolate that fed all 4 of us. Prices were on par for what you would expect for a good quality restaurant experience. Heck, the great food and service we received here was better than other places we have been that we paid more at!

Great food, mediocre service, very pricey. The serving sizes do not make up for the price. Do not wear a nice shirt you don’t want to get grease on. The nature of the hot rock cooking means there WILL be grease all over you and your table. You’ve been warned. This was our second time at this establishment, the first time was underwhelming so I reserved my review until we gave it a second chance. The service here both times was less than desired, from the host staff to the waitstaff. The host staff barely acknowledge you, its purely a business transaction to get you out of their way. The wait staff is friendly enough but inattentive and preoccupied. Again it’s a business transaction to get you checked off the list. Rather than selling you the experience, they seem to be focused on the numbers. This is really a 2.5 rating but I went with three because the food and food quality really is good. No one in my party, at either visit, disliked any of the food. It’s very good, but then your cooking it yourself, if it’s bad it’s your own fault. I would be remiss not to mention the lighting in this restaurant is harsh. It’s very bright and unflattering. The lights appear to be halogen bulbs high above the tables and it cast terrible shadows on everything. The light color and quality is poor and there is little to no natural light. It makes the experience naturally less appealing and it makes photos of the food and people dreary. The amazing experience you are paying for is being dulled by the people and environment of this establishment. Maybe my expectations are too high, perhaps others will have better experience here. My recommendation is that your money is better spent elsewhere. My two visits were my birthday and our anniversary. Neither time did they ask nor care what our celebration was. 5-22-22

Yesterday, 8/23 my coworker and I took a group of customers to what was supposed to be a nice lunch at 11am when they opened. Honestly the food was fine and the service was fine, though it did take them 20 minutes to seat our party of 10 in the empty restaurant. At the end of our meal we went to pay with our company cards and this is where they get a 1 star. Their POSi system went down and they told us it would take 5-10 minutes to reboot. We were still wrapping up the meal so we initially said that's okay and left it at that. It was now 12:25 and we told our customers to go ahead and head back since their lunch hour had already ran long and we thank them for trying to wait with us. Someone stops by and says it will be just a couple more minutes and we let them know we need to leave soon for work. 10 more minutes pass and at this point we are going to be late for our next appointment. The staff has legitimately hidden in the back of house, no one is at the bar, at the host stand, or in the main restaurant for several minutes. We finally ask for help and are told we can go to a local ATM. We let them know that this is a company expense and it needs to be on the card. We provided multiple options, can we leave our business cards and the information for the credit card to be ran later and they said no and provided no help at finding a way for us to pay and leave. After waiting more it is 12:50 so we wait a little longer and at 1pm we are talking with the manager again. He ignores us waiting at the bar for him even though we had been very patient and polite in the whole exchange. We watch the machine boot back up while he ignores us making drinks for someone else's table and talking to wait staff and ask if the machine is back up. The manager finally goes oh yea. Then goes BACK to making additional drinks without another word (even just a let me finish this and then I can help you). We ask if he can just run our cards for us because it's been over a HOUR to wait to check out, we are late for work and our next appointments. I understand they can't control technology, but the fact that we kept getting ignored, hidden from, and just not cared about was awful. We were not confrontational even though they literally cost us additional appointments with customers and threw a massive wrench in both my coworkers and I day. The manager eventually goes to find our waitress and asks her to ring us up. He walks away and we never see him again. She finally rings us up, we tip her, and we leave. The total time after we gave her the cards was over 1 hour and 15 minutes. I will never have another personal or business meeting here again. I will never support a manager who can't even try to find a resolution with us or just freaking communicate. There wasnt even a hey, were sorry do you need a glass of water or anything while you wait.

They accept cards as payment and we walked into the building with that expectation. I didn't expect to be trapped there with them holding our company credit cards hostage for...

I was so excited for our first visit here. I have heard a lot about Black Rock, and this is where my sister loved to go, so we planned a surprise birthday dinner (originally for 15 people, but only ended up being for 8 people) We had reservations for 5:00 pm and we were sat right away. The waitress came over, and took everyone's drink order. She brought everyone water, and two people ordered a gin and tonic. The waitress only brought out one gin and tonic, and not the other one. She came back to the table three different times to see if everything was okay, and we reminded her all three times, that we still needed a gin and tonic. Each time, she said she would check on it and bring it back. We finally received it. The apps came out right away, which were very good. About a half hour goes by, and we inquired about our food. She informed us that she had a problem putting in the order. About a half hour passes and our soup and salads came out. We ordered two more gin & tonics and more water. Once again, one gin and tonic comes out and we have to ask three more times for water, and the other gin and tonic. She finally brought the drink, and two pitchers of water for the table. Another hour goes by. By this time, I am completely over this whole situation. My sister asks for more ice for the ice water, (once again, we had to ask three different times before she finally brings it) It is now 7:00. I told my husband I was going to go back to my hotel room and get something. Naturally, once I get back to the hotel, he texts me to tell me my food has arrived. So, I walk back immediately. Well, it was barely even warm. (and it wasn't because I left and came back. My husband said it wasn't warm when she even brough it, because he tried a bite once they came) I chose not to cook my own food, and ordered the honey mustard chicken tacos and French fries. The waitress noticed the french fries didn't come out with all the other food, and she said she would bring them. I told her to forget it, because the tacos were enough. She brought them out anyway. Needless to say, I took maybe two bites out of one of my three tacos, and pushed them aside. They were luke warm and dry. Like I said, I was over it. Crab legs that were ordered, were over cooked, and obviously sat in the water for too long, as you couldn't crack them, they were totally rubbery. I'm not sure if the "rocks" you are supposed to cook on were hot enough. Normally you only have to cook scallops one minute per side to get a perfect seared scallop. It took 5-6 minutes to get them fully cooked. It was about 8:00 pm before everyone could finally leave. Thank God our party was only 8 people, instead of the 15 that were supposed to show up. How knows how long everyone would have had to wait. I get that it's all about the experience, but with this "experience" I will never go back. Not to this one, or any other Black Rock restaurant. They were busy. yes. But we watched people come in way after us, get their food before us, and leave way...
