I feel so grateful that 5 & Dime is my neighborhood bar! I love the atmosphere of the bar inside. It's the perfect blend of dive bar meets cocktail bar, with an impressive food menu on top. Depending on when you go, it might be very chill and just to be FoPo locals hanging out, or some nights it's quite bustling and makes for great people watching. Their booths are amazing and comfortable, and perfect for meeting friends. Also they are dog and kid friendly! I like seeing so many kinds of people inside the bar, especially in the summertime when it's nice out and the patio is full. They also have a cute photo booth in the back! Their drink menu has excellent cocktails and they always update it. I love their seasonal rotation of different menu items too. And their daily specials for food and drinks!! It makes me keep wanting to come back just to see what they're gonna add next. I have been here dozens of times and I have never had a bad drink. Since I love cocktails that's usually what I get but I also enjoy their house wine and they have some nice and affordable beer options (check out their happy hour!) Also, y'all, I gotta discuss the food here. Honestly this is one of the most creative bar menus I've seen. From amazing hot dogs (so many coney options, I LOVE IT) to full on elevated special meals, I'm honestly so impressed that their seemingly small kitchen space can crank out such great meals, my compliments to their chefs as well. If you're looking for a quick food option, they also allow you to grab pizza from Atlas next door and eat it inside (there's a door inside connecting the two spots!) Speaking of the staff in general, I love all the bartenders I've met, as well as the servers/food runners and kitchen crew. For our wedding, we had our welcome dinner on their patio last summer and it was so nice! They helped us reserve tables and we set up a drink ticketing system for the guests, and we served pizza from Atlas next door. The 5&Dime crew was super accommodating and it ended up being a highlight of our wedding weekend for our guests. I low-key don't want everyone to know about 5&Dime because I want to be able to get a booth easily whenever I want, but also they deserve all the props so I had to leave this long overdue review. ❤️🍻 Definitely stop by this place if you're...
Read moreThis might be the best cocktail bar in Portland. If you took the food menu of American Local and combined the cocktail quality of Vintage or Deadshot, and then attached it to a pizza joint, you would have a pretty close approximation of 5 and Dime.
It's clearly run by a group of industry professionals who appreciate quality and hold themselves to a higher standard. The decor is on point and includes the work of local artists.
Always a fun and relaxed vibe, but the menu is all class. 1 page of original spins on cocktails, followed by 2 pages of what amounts to a dictionary of every major classic cocktail done to perfection.
I've been here 4 times, and ordered a dozen drinks. I've never had anything short of amazing.
Also. And this can't be overstated. The cocktails are mostly 8-10 dollars. In Portland. I've been to other spots that serve me a bullsh*t badly made Manhattan and charge $15 without blinking an eye.
If you are into classic artisan cocktails, and you don't go to 5 and Dime immediately, I honestly don't know how...
Read moreThis could become a great asset to the neighborhood. I counted down the days til opening! Unfortunately it’s been kind of a let down. Drinks are okay and food is pretty good, but I can’t bring myself to spend anymore money at a place with bad service. I mean really bad service. I’ve worked in the industry so I know sometimes you have a bad day/things just slip through the cracks, but Alex the bartender has been a super wet blanket/cloud over this place. I’ve come 3 times and each time he has looked through me, been kind of a jerk, and super aloof like I am putting him out for asking for a drink off the menu. Dude could be a better back of house kinda guy perhaps. If you’re in the hood, I’d pass this place up and try Assembly, Bar Maven, or Starday.
TLDR: drinks are pretty good, service is v bad. But it’s ok there are other...
