Had a grande Chai Tea and a chocolate scone. Both were excellent and when I had a question the ginger Barista was effervescant and knowleable. I didn't feel like I was being rushed, I was made to feel like an old friend, right away.
I also brought my good friend, who has physical/mental special needs and he enthusiastically enjoys his Cappuccino and muffin and the attention he recieves from all the staff. He might have trouble expressing himself, but he knows when he is being talked down to and when he is being treated like an incapable child (even though he is retired). Neither of those issues has ever happened to him, believe me, he will boycot business' for those misteps.
I am a firm believer in supporting neighborhood businesses and Albina Press is our "stop" to refuel our tanks with premium beans, select teas and an exclusive pass to strike up a conversation with someone who is, as interesting as you. Just bring an open mind and...

Second time I went here (9/30/24), I paid a ridiculous amount for what was a teabag in hot water, and a dirty mug. No milk/sugar/etc, and didn't bother even waiting for the steeping time. I got up to ask for a clean mug, and had to wait for her to have a full convo with a friend first. She seemed baffled by me asking for a new mug, and proceeded to hand me a different dirty mug. I drank my tea directly out of the kettle at that point. I really do want to like this place, but it's a shame they put all their money into the atmosphere instead of crafting decent drinks or a half decent dishwasher. If you want more than an Americano (which you should order to go, please) I'd suggest making the trek out to Stacks or Portal...
Read moreAlbina Press is a neighborhood staple with excellent French press coffee, comfy seating for solo work, and friendly staff. The artsy, cozy vibe makes it a classic spot for college students and locals alike.
However, there's an issue with the water: North Portland's aging pipes (some nearly 100 years old, especially near Killingsworth) and lack of filtration noticeably affect the taste. The water tastes harsh and sometimes metallic, and sadly, that carries through to the coffee—leaving it less smooth and flavorful than you'd hope from such a well-loved café.
If you're picky about coffee taste, you might notice this right away. Hopefully, improvements to the city's water system will resolve this in the future, since the staff and service...
