I’ve enjoyed coming to Prost for a long time and used to live a block away.
Tonight I dropped by to grab a drink and finish up some work. (Monday August 5, 2024)
Typically service is good to acknowledge and help a customer out.
Tonight wasn’t a busy night and far from packed out. I was one of 3 other patrons sitting at the bar and the only one without a drink. About 1/3 of the table inside were filled. Check Google for typical patron attendance on Mondays.
3 people were working in the back.
Apparently a bartender named Dylan was taking care of beverages while two others were working food.
I sat for 7-10 minutes at the bar without being recognized once or said hello to as Dylan went into the seating area and took care of a few other things.
Then finally a different person came up and asked me if I’d been taken care of yet. I didn’t say anyhting other than no. They poured a drink and walked away for 4 minutes as the foam dissipated in the mug (because according to Dylan “their drinks pour slow”) and seemed to forget that I was waiting on my beer.
I asked for the beer sitting on the bar and went and sat at a table. No issues. I drank my beer over 30 minutes.
The bartender Dylan was still serving people in seating area but seemed to skip me as I’d finished my beer and patiently waited for the table service over 15-20 minutes so I got up and went to the bar to ask for one more.
A different bartender immediately attended to me and said they would serve me at the table and would bring the beer to me as he was surprised I wasn’t served at the table.
He did just fine but it seems Dylan wasn’t too attentive or doing the job well. I rarely write poor reviews as they aren’t necessary. But what poor service and lack of attention by Dylan. Incompetent or doesn’t care at best.
But the final straw was when they charged me 31 dollars for a 15 dollar tab and two beers.
Talk about lack of care or attentiveness. 15 dollars is 15 dollars. That doesn’t bug me but it wasn’t busy I can assure you as it was a Monday night.
It was like a child serving adults who is there to collect a paycheck but doesn’t care to do a job well.
Whoever management is needs to step in and talk with Dylan because bartenders here used to be great from 2018-2022 but this last time made me think twice.
Also I understand it could be a one off but he seemed to have an attitude with me when I let him know he was rather inattentive.
Terrible service there. Good environment, but Wouldn’t recommend now to any friends or family unless they want poor service. There are many places in Portland that offer great service even when...
Read moreThe following situation happened at around 4:30-5pm today: My partner and I sat at a table in front of the outdoor bar with enough room for two people to comfortably share the table with us. I went to get my food from White Elephant while my partner sat at the table drinking their beer from Prost. When I came back my partner pointed to a reservation sign and said that someone placed that there while I was away. They didn't see the person that put the sign down and just heard a male voice say "take your time!" or something to that extent. Now I've worked in the restaurant industry, but even if I didn't I can pretty confidently say that's a pretty rude way to treat a customer. There are so many ways that this could have been handled that wouldn't have made my partner and I feel disposable. Anyway, so, I saw another table get up and I moved the sign over there. Then a bartender wearing an orange sweatshirt and a beanie covering their hair moved the sign back. I said "We were sitting here before the sign was put down." And they said "We'll you be here at 5:30." I said "I don't know, maybe." They replied "I'm not arguing with you. There's people coming here to watch the game. Can they sit with you?" If that was a conversation that was had before any of this, I would have said absolutely. But I'm sure if you were in this position from the start, you would have also felt like you were being shooed away. The table we were sitting at was one of two tables on the patio that faces the wall, so I understand why this was such a big ordeal, that's not our problem and my partner bought a beer from Prost and was planning on buying more until any of this happened. After the situation with the bartender. They went over and told the other bartender that was working outside about the conversation that happened with me. I know this because I saw them looking and pointing at our table. It's really a shame that any of this happened because my partner really enjoyed Prost's...
Read moreI checked this place out a couple weeks ago on a whim during my visit to Portland. I liked their selection of German beers and was super pleased with the Pilsner I got. The pretzel was alright but this spot is definitely more beer than food focused so I didn’t expect much. Overall the vibe of the bar was good at first but I was pretty quickly put off by the bartender (I think his name was Dillon). Granted it was the end of the night but the utter lack of desire to be even decent at his job was very apparent. Having to listen to the conversations the bartender was having with his coworker along with a group of guys (who seemed like regulars) was appalling. I chugged my beer so I could leave before the bartender could turn his obnoxiously aggressive music up anymore. I’m normally not one to complain and I do love the feeling of a late night dive bar. But I don’t love watching a bartender (who clearly hates his life) stomp around like a man child. The misogynistic energy coming from the staff and the patrons there was incredibly strong. That on top of the extremely loud music and the slightly pornographic TV show that was playing was all just too much for me. I travel for work and so I often go out to bars by myself but this place was just not the vibe for a single lady to relax and have a beer. Maybe try to hire some people who actually like being a bartender and don’t seem like they’re one monster energy drink away from going full Kyle and punching a hole in the wall. I don’t often leave reviews and even though this happened a couple weeks ago I can’t stop thinking about it and I just wanted to tell others about...
