We really wanted to love this place but some of the food came up lacking a little bit. The poutine breakfast was amazing however! Cubed potatoes were cooked perfectly and had a wonderful smooth buttery texture. Chunks of melted cheese throughout, topped with “red eye gravy”(this was good gravy, but not even close to red eye gravy) and a fried egg
omg such a well-executed dish. Where they fell really short was their baked goods, they were very dry. The cheddar chive biscuits had decent flavor but were dry. The cinnamon roll was also dry. The biggest disappointment was the coconut cardamom French toast. This dish has such potential and sounds lovely, but the bread was very dry, very dense and very hard to physically eat due to the texture and rock-hard crusts. This isn’t your soft delicate and sweet French toast, this is a dry, hard dense bread with no batter kind of toast. The service was very fast and super friendly, and the establishment is clean and organized. They are SO close to being a fantastic breakfast joint, I think they just need another set of eyes (or mouth?) checking out there baked goods process.

I wanted to give this place 5 stars but I was also in last week and after reading the one star review they got, I had to be a little more critical. The restaurant is very small and attached to a cute little artisan shop. It’s well done and I loved the local photography they had on the walls. I got the lox on rye and it was delicious and a generous amazing filet of salmon. The tea selection was awesome and the tea latte I ordered was delicious. I would highly recommend this place on every point except the service. I experienced the same server that was mentioned in the one star review. It was a busy Sunday brunch (last Sunday) and he was not happy. I noticed him doing and saying multiple things you just shouldn’t ever do as a server. He was bothered by his customers and made it awkward and unpleasant to be there. I rushed my service through the other server who was kind and doing her job correctly, paid and left. I will come back to the Hazel Room for the food and the art for sure, hopefully the service will be a little more pleasant.

Hazel Room had been my favorite breakfast spot since I first ordered it, however, things have changed greatly over the past year and a half for the worse. I repeatedly have gotten hair in my food, undercooked hard potatoes, undercooked gooey biscuits and poor tasting food. I put a ban on my boyfriend and I ordering or going to eat at Hazel Room about 6 months ago due to all the issues. We ordered it a lot before, maybe once or twice a month. During this ban we did not have issues with other restaurants. Never like this. Today was the worst because it was the best tasting we have had in over a year. I ate the first side of my gf Benedict then going in for my second was a hair I couldn’t grab a hold of. That was because of the length and being imbedded between the lettuce and biscuit. We are done forever. We have called to let them know of hairs in their food before and they clearly do not care to change. Absolutely disgusted this happened. Don’t go here, they don’t care about your health and safety.

My friend and I chose this as our brunch destination after a 6 mile hike. We were told the wait to be seated was 20-30 minutes. This is fair for brunch hour. Once seated, our waiter didn’t even bother to bring us water even though the tables had empty cups on them already. We had to ask for it. We knew what we were going to order as we looked at the menu during our wait. We ordered food and drinks shortly after being seated. After about 35 minutes, I noticed tables with larger groups and even people who arrived and were seated 20 minutes after us, begin to receive their food. My friend asked a waitress if we could at least get our drinks as we’d been sitting there for more than a half an hour. She seemed confused. She went into the establishment and returned shortly after to advise us that our waiter forgot to put our order in. This was extremely frustrating. This waiter neglected us the whole time. Perhaps because we were sweaty and dirty as we hiked all morning? We were told our food would be rushed. Drinks came at the same time the food did. The waiter seemed very nice to other tables, he even told one table that his day was “better now that they were here”. I could care less about the mindless chatter and the empty flirts in an attempt to get a bigger tip. We had a horrible experience. Perhaps they should train their staff better, ins common sense. Hospitality was not it. We did get a small discount on our check but they could have done more after the treatment we...

Was originally very excited to take my parents to the hazel room as they were visiting out of town. Service was terrible the host was extremely rude and left the door open literally freezing us out, and we waited outside for 45 minutes in the cold for them then to do this. When I asked if they could close the door cause my 85 year old grandma was shivering they glared again at me and they were like we will with an attitude. (Also don’t take people here who need handrails to go up the stairs my grandparents and mom who just had a knee replacement were hanging onto the railing for dear life and they had their reader board sign Infront of the stair railing at the top of the stairs making it difficult for people who need to hold on to be able to safely get up the stairs. )When my parents and grandparents couldn’t see on the phone the menu, the waiter was upset for even asking for actual menus. In addition we had to wait an hour and a half for our food after waiting 45 minutes to even sit down, then 20 minutes for them to come take our order, then 1.5 hours to get food we have ordered, as they were making online orders before anyone’s in the restaurant! By the time your food comes Youre on your third to forth cup of coffee. Needless to say the food use to be good but it’s not good enough to ever come back after being treated like that, left a terrible taste in my mouth, won’t be back and will be sharing this experience with my...

Staring off the food was good and our gluten free friends said that their food was good as well.

We had a bit of a passive aggressive experience. Our friends asked for a table for four adults and a baby. They were told it would be an hour wait to sit together. Not surprising on a Sunday in Portland. They however noticed a bunch of open two person tables. They asked if they would mind if we pushed two together. They were told no. Odd, but ok. So we just said we would take two of the two person tables that were side by side and not push them together. Again, for a two person table there were tons of options and no wait, but for some reason this really irritated the wait staff. We spent the rest of the time being treated very passive aggressively. For example, being served food with no silverware and having to wait to flag down a different staff. They refused to take our order together, and in fact took them several minutes apart when the restaurant really wasn’t that busy. Things of that nature. It was a weird experience, which I would have understood if we had demanded something from them but we were willing to sit side by side and were treated like somehow that made extra work for them, instead of filling empty tables.

The other thing that made me a bit uncomfortable was that in order to use the bathroom customers have to walk through food prep areas where food was left on trays in the open with no one...
