Kids At Heart Toys — Local services in Portland

I love shopping locally and try to whenever possible. This toy store is near my house so I went there to get a baby gift. It’s a really cute store and appears to have a great variety of toys and books. However, when I walked in I didn’t think there was anyone working there! No one said a word - I was wondering if they were closed and forgot to lock up!! Then I realized there was someone sitting behind the counter in almost a booth. The entire time I was there this person was on their phone. Never looked up to acknowledge me or anyone else who walked in. I could have used some help but honestly felt like I would be imposing on this person. I ended up picking out something small for the baby and for the 4 year old sibling. I probably would have spent more money and time had I been asked if I needed any help!! Or had any kind of friendly greeting! As it was I sort of couldn’t wait to leave - I felt like I was imposing! I see why so many people shop online - you don’t expect to get any help there!...

It was obnoxiously pivoting to see how unprofessional the employee was today on 7/23/2021 around 3 pm. When I walked in the store with my son both wearing masks to spent a large amount of money on toys for my children. Right after I entered a store there were a family of four with a little girl below age two. The employee of the store started yelling to the parents that her toddler needs to wear a mask, when the mother told her that she is below two, the employe still continue to yell at the mom that she cannot shop here. I understand that it is the right of the business to let who can shop in the store and who cannot. What I don't understand is that who gave the right to the employee to yell at the stranger just because her daughter was not wearing a mask. This yelling caused this little girl to go into tantrum and I just could not stand it and left the store. You just lost a very generous new customer because of your unprofessionalism and I hope there will be less...

I've been shopping at this place for years and years but had totally forgotten about it, until we waited too long to order our nieces' and nephews' Christmas presents from Amazon. My husband suggested we go here and I'm so glad we did! It's such a fun, well-curated store, with a great mix of new toys and games, and tons of old school ones from when we were kids, that made it fun to shop there together and reminisce about all our old faves. They have such a great mix of heftier presents, and then also a bunch of fun little toys that make great stocking stuffers or fun add-ons. Their prices can't be beat--I'm sure we spent less than we would have on Amazon anyway, and feel much better about supporting a local small business. They have a huge age range so I'm sure we'll be shopping here as Auntie & Uncle for many...
