We had an impressively bad experience here. To set the stage we got here about 5:30pm with 3 tables which seemed to be just chillin so I thought timing was good but for some reason the staff had already given up the ghost when it came to service for the day. I ordered 6 slices for a party of 6 and two of them were the veggie. When my three cheese came out I asked if they were mine and the tall guy who literally just took my order informed me "I have no idea what you ordered." Which is like... Ok but I have no idea of these are for someone else... So wtf do we do now? After a long stare at each other he said "Ok they are yours" and that's about the best interaction he could offer me. I guess I didn't properly assess the veggie in the slice cabinet because it must have been there for over an hour, dried to a crisp, inedible. But I guess that's on me idk. I'm really confused how two people told me to come eat here but the ingredients were nothing. My homie ordered a margherita to go and I was hopeful it was just the slices which disappointed but I was baffled to see eight 3/4 inch shreds of basil mostly placed in a clump across three slices. This is pizza guys... It's not a delicate dish but come on man... I try to not be disrespectful on here but I'm just burned. There are so many good pizza spots in this city, save yourselves this experience. Vibe is alright tho, pinball and a back patio. Could be a chill family friendly spot if the service didn't make me feel the dread of...
Read morePizza was good, garlic knots were all different sizes and were not that great. I placed my order online at 3pm for 5:30 delivery expecting it to show up around 6. My order didn't arrive until 7:15 pm. I also live only a few blocks away on 85th. It was disappointing to have to call at 6:45 pm to figure out when my order was going to be showing up with no forgiveness for it being late or any acknowledgement that anything was wrong. A simple "I'm so sorry we've been swamped" or "we're still figuring out online ordering" would have gone a long way.
The pizza was good, the wait wasn't, I really hope this business gets their delivery/online ordering under control, until then I don't think I'll be back. Also not being able to order their signature pizza for delivery was a huge let down to everyone the night we tried to order it.
Side note a few days later my mother in law ordered for pickup and waited over an hour after the 35 minute time the website said it would take. the caprese salad was a joke of giant tomatoes and tiny balls of mozzarella, The Caesar was ok, hard to eat with how large they cut the lettuce. If anyone waits for almost 2 hours for food it better be the best damn thing they've ever tasted.
The hard part about working in the hospitality business is admitting when you've failed to meet the standards of timely service, had this happened in the restaurant I work in I would be more than ashamed. I see the potential for great service and amazing food, it's just...
Read moreOne victim (hopefully temporary) of the pandemic appears to be availability of pizza by the slice at lunchtime. Many of my go-to establishments are currently not opening until 4:00. A bit of online research led me to Humdinger, which turned out to be a lovely midday destination. They are located in a beautifully restored building within easy walking distance from multiple new apartments that have sprung up near SE 92nd and Foster. Finding street parking nearby was not a challenge. Big windows, a light industrial feel, and old pinball machines that are as well restored as the building welcomed us in. The pizza will ultimately be what brings me back - I had a cheese slice, admittedly a bit high priced, but I'm reasonably sure it was the largest slice I've ever encountered. Their "Humdinger" size pies are 24 inch masterpieces, only served in-house, probably because boxes for something this size would be impractical. At the time of my visit, they had a cheese version of the mega pizza, and two other options which were normal, extra large sized pies. The cheese slice was reheated perfectly, and had the hoped for ratios of sauce, cheese, and crust just right. It wasn't life changing - but it was the kind of slice that hits the spot when you're looking for a quick, extremely...
