This place has a very subtle Christian vibe to it that would typically ward off someone like myself, but believe me when I tell you that if there were ever something to convince someone like me to become a god-loving Christian, the coffee this place makes has that kind of power. I have never had a better Americano in my life and every time I’ve grown the courage to explore other things on the menu, I have never once been disappointed. I don’t know what kind of magic these two people who run the place put into the drinks they make, but they have it nailed down to a science because over the last two years they have been nothing less than consistent and friendly every single time I’ve been here. The two main people who I have still failed to learn the names of, are a power duo behind that coffee bar and are always incredibly helpful and kind to every single person that walks into their shop. It’s not often that you see a local business with such consistently good quality products and customer service; if I was in charge they would get a big plaque to hang up that boasted how truly above and beyond they are in their field. The atmosphere is also good, definitely going for a mid-century modern 50s vibe and in conjunction with the typically charming older music that plays is the cherry on top for a wonderful little spot that lives up to its name. A refuge in a generally drab part of town. Can’t stop, won’t stop going....
Read moreEdit: It's Time to step up everyone! This local family owned shop has made Lents its home, and we're all the better for it! They first opened and within a couple months, COVID struck. NOW, when things are starting to look up, A Reckless Driver LITERALLY shifted the front of the building! That wood covering one side of the shop is there because some jerkwad crashed into their facade in the middle of the night(and got away with it so far. Got any tips?! Send them to the local sheriff's office!), meaning this family that's given so much, has to give even more, just to keep their doors open!
They love coffee and their community. This little family run shop got started only a couple months before COVID arrived, and they've had to fight and scrape every single day to make their dreams come true as a result.
The Lents neighborhood is a little jewel (The Zed/Zoiglehaus, Humdinger, Refuge, Flip Side...) and Refuge stands out as a singular light, a beacon of small business that shines in the face of challenge.
All that, and I neglected to mention that their Pour Over coffees, are PHENOMENAL!!!
Give this family run hometown coffee shop the love...
Read moreRefuge Coffee House is an absolute gem—dare I say, a sacred space for coffee lovers and cozy vibes alike. From the moment you step inside, you’re wrapped in warmth—not just from the perfectly brewed drinks, but from the atmosphere itself. It’s like walking into a hug you didn’t know you needed.
The coffee? Next level. Bold, smooth, nuanced—every sip feels like a tiny celebration. Whether you’re grabbing a classic latte or one of their creative seasonal specials, it’s clear that serious love and craftsmanship go into every cup. And let’s talk about the pastries and snacks: ridiculously good. Fresh, flavorful, and somehow both indulgent and soul-nourishing.
The space is a dream. Thoughtful decor, inviting seating, and just the right mix of chill and vibrant. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay a while, whether you’re working, reading, or deep in conversation with a friend. And the people? Kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to be there. It shows.
Refuge Coffee House isn’t just a coffee shop—it’s a full-on experience. A refuge in every sense of the word. I’d give it 10 stars if I could....
