The ice cream was alright but pricey for the portion you get. The service here was awful. There was a curly, red-haired girl that was extremely rude to every single customer she served for the 15 minutes I was there to observe it. I was unfortunately served by her and she had an annoyed expression on her face the entire time. The only sentence she ever said was “what can I get for you”and that was literally it. She pretty aggressively placed my ice cream on the counter without a “thank you” or “have a nice day” or a single word. I then go to pay and overhear the girl at the register complaining to her coworker that the couple in front of me didn’t tip, and they both rolled their eyes. I was truly in shock. I work in food service too and have been through terrible shifts/days, but I’m trained to never take my frustration out on innocent customers or complain about them at the front of house. Customer service is an extremely important factor in whether or not people will return to your business, and sadly, this experience made me not want to come back here nor recommend it to anyone. I left pretty upset even with ice cream in my hand. Please train your staff to be nice to people. That really is...

We visited Kate's Ice Cream tonight with some friends, excited to try their plant-based treats. While we were enjoying our ice cream, we noticed the line was nearly out the door, including a couple with two young kids patiently waiting their turn. To everyone’s surprise, the staff member behind the counter abruptly announced that only two more customers would be served and asked the rest (20-25 paying customers) to leave since they close at 10 pm.

It was upsetting to watch the children—who were next in line—get turned away and leave in tears. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of empathy from the staff. There was no apology, just a cold dismissal.

If closing time was approaching, the team should’ve either locked the door or clearly communicated earlier instead of letting the line grow and people wait in vain. It was disheartening to witness and could have been managed far more thoughtfully.

Kate’s Ice Cream, please take this as constructive feedback: your product may be great, but customer experience matters just as much. We hope you’ll consider better training for your staff on how to handle these situations with genuine kindness...

This is some of the best ice cream I've ever had.A scoop is $5.50, listed on the menu. They then, charged me an extra $3.00 for the cone! The ice cream is amazing.Delicious ice cream! I had no idea it was vegan. Every flavor was excellent, I tried 6 of them.I will be back. It is not too sweet, or too sugary.

Google needs to delete the racist, sexist, bigoted, hateful , fake, 1 star, reviews on here, from people who have never even been to Portland, or this great ice cream shop! If you see one star, know that that person has probably never been in this shop. The ice cream is so good, I can't imagine anyone giving it one star. This ice cream is better than Salt and Straw. Delete the comments from men complaining about who they hire, men complaining about the owners not being white, the lying bigot woman who said ice cream is salty.Google- please moderate and delete all hateful...

This is a sugar laden scent cloud of yummy so decadent you won't realize you are eating vegan and gluten free! We picked up waffle cones and a scoop of ice cream each after I requested to try five flavors as they all sounded so good. Based on description, I would have gone for lemon cheesecake but it was strong on lemon and I could not really taste the cheesecake flavor I wanted. This was the only flavor I was not happy with. The rest were great. The employees were very helpful and friendly and happy to help me figure out which flavors won. I say flavors because I narrowed it down to two and couldn't decide so I asked for a half scoop of each, which they kindly obliged. Even if you don't have dietary restrictions, they have unique, locally created, deliciously creamy flavors and I highly recommend them. They also had cake donuts, cookies and brownies.

Whoa. I'm a huge fan of ice cream, but lactose intolerant, so I often put my stomach through absolute torture in order to enjoy one of my favorite desserts. Sometimes it's hard to find vegan ice cream that is actually good, even in places that specialize in ice cream, and I don't like being limited to one or two flavors in said places. However, everything at Kate's is safe for me to eat, which I appreciate! Prices are also pretty fair, and the quality of what they offer is soooooo delicious, creamy and rich. The lines can get pretty long, even in unconventional hours, and while I'm an impatient person, I think the desserts here are worth the wait. Would definitely come back whenever I'm in the area.

Simply put, Kate’s Great Plant-Based Desserts is AMAZING. As someone who is dairy-free it’s next to impossible to 1. Find dessert options without dairy and 2. Find dessert options that actually TASTE GOOD! You cannot go wrong at Kate’s the ice cream is delicious and dairy and gluten free. By FAR the best dairyless ice cream I have ever had! I sampled and had the Marionberry Cobbler, it tasted so delicious and all the mix-ins were fresh and tasty! No only that, but if you’re lucky, you might happen to meet Kate herself like we did! She’s incredibly sweet, and it’s always fun to meet a business owner and see how passionate they are about their craft!
