New York Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Portland

This review is an update after a recent experience: Service was just terrible-the girl was rude on the phone, and worst of all even though I placed the order over the phone my husband had to repeat the order when he went in person to pick it up and had to then wait for the order to be made. More importantly, the food was a massive disappointment since last time. It was way over salty, way over battered, and not fresh tasting fatty chicken. Very sad and disappointing and we won't return.

The following review was the first time we'd been here a couple years back now and was previously 5 stars: My oh my, that was so delicious. Look, I try to say it in every review--to keep it short and simple, lemme just tell you that my husband and I are both foodies and we've been all over the country and lived on both coasts; we know us something about good food. We had the chicken, of course, with fries, and the shrimp with rice. The chicken was moist, not at all fatty, with a flavorful and light batter. The fries were delish yummy flavorful soft-on-the-inside and slightly crunchy outside. The shrimp were also super moist and flavorful-but neither was overseasoned!-and that rice, hey, that was gorgeously light, fluffy and flavorful basmati, Yom. Nice and clean in there and the guys were super polite...

Went here because it was the only late night food option in town. I’ll be honest, the expectations were low to begin with but we figured we’d roll the dice. I mean, it’s fried chicken. How hard can it be to mess that up?

Five of us ordered the chicken tenders and all came to a unanimous decision that this was the worst chicken we’ve ever had in our lives. I don’t think there are words in the English language that could capture just how appalling this chicken was. First of all it didn’t even look like chicken, and it was paper thin and extremely over cooked. I’m not sure how they managed to make chicken that was dryer than a piece of cardboard but hats off to them for that. I think a 4 year old could probably make better chicken than this. I mean, I would feel bad feeding this chicken to my dog. If I could give this -5 stars I would.

So, if it’s late night and you’re in the Portland area, before you decide to roll the dice and try this place, be warned that you very well could experience the most abominable tasting chicken that has ever...

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic for halal food if you are ever in Portland, Maine! I tried the French fries, chicken, burger, and tres leches cake, and everything was delicious. My friend had the lamb gyro with fries and she really enjoyed it as well. Not only is this a wonderfully family-friendly spot, but the food is top-notch. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the restaurant was spotless. You could tell they maintain a clean environment, as they were regularly tidying up and had clearly cleaned earlier. My friends and I had a wonderful time dining here — it's both affordable and incredibly tasty. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and I had an amazing experience. If you're in the Portland area and love fast food, I highly recommend giving New York Fried Chicken a try for a satisfying dinner. You really can't go wrong!
