Have been a an of tea and tea establishments for many years. Most of my purchases are made online. Was looking for someplace in the local Portland Maine area. Found the web site for Homegrown and desired to check it out. Getting around and parking in Portland can be a test of patience but I found the shop in a few small store on lower Congress street, even found a parking spot. Many of the specialty stores are Modern and glitzy. Homegrown is the kind of store your grandmother would frequent. The interior isn't designed by a plan-a-gram, it more like an old time shop showcasing personal taste and knowledge. The owner, who’s name is Sarah, pleasantly greats each customer and is a wealth of information about the teas that she blends right in front of you. No pre*packed, who knows how long it’s been on the shelve product. I choose a Lapsang and my wife had a Earl Gray. The teas were lovely as was our conversation. Sarah uses her vast knowledge of herbs and fruits to make very tasty tea offerings. The shop also carries a nice collection of other tea items along with spices and honeys. Although it maybe a slight journey to find Homegrown teas it is well worth the investment. The reward in both time and enjoyment make this a place...
Read moreThe tea is excellent and creative. Best mixes of herbs and tea I’ve come across in my travels. The time spent and number of ingredients that go into making a cup of tea are remarkable. Sarah, the proprietor, does not rush the process or cut corners. Her tea is an artistic expression of her love for others and the world, and it really shows. Her prices are purposefully kept affordable so everyone can enjoy the delicious tea she makes.
Just want to say something additional, which you can see from others’ reviews as well, which is that Sarah is actually the best part of the whole experience. She is a wonderful person and delightful to talk to and she will share her vast knowledge with you freely and lovingly, which is just such an awesome experience. I look forward to stopping in to see Sarah whenever I’m...
Read moreThis place is an absolute gem. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by the incredible scents of fresh licorice and herbs, immediately easing your anxiety and the stress of the outside world. The owner Sarah is so great and unbelievably knowledgeable. You can't visit this shop without learning something new and leaving with a handful of incredibly aromatic teas. She has such a huge selection of herbs and blends her own tea right in front of you - made to order! She's so upbeat, helpful and accommodating. I urge everyone who finds themselves in the lower Munjoy Hill neighborhood to stop by and check it out - say hi to Sarah! Sadly, there just aren't places like this anymore; when we find hidden gems like this in our city, we need to support them any way we can!...
