Pat at the front desk needs to learn about customer service. Lack of empathy, and attitude.
My wife and I stayed at the Cambria for 4 days with our baby for our first trip as a family of 3. Upon arriving staff was very friendly and accommodating and welcoming to us initially.
Understanding we have a baby we asked if we could have a quieter room away from other guests which the staff said would definitely be possible, they would need to just clean the room and will call us shortly when it is ready. They had already found a room on the top floor and would gladly give it to us.
10m later I get a call from a staff member named PAT saying the room that was getting prepared doesn’t exist and he proceeded to put us on the fourth floor. His attitude was cold and treated the other kind employee that helped us horribly. It was as if he was scolding the new employee for trying to look out for us.
He put us on the lowest floor. Walls on the hotel rooms are paper thin. You can hear footsteps from the ceiling and all the noise through the room doors. After driving 12 hours all we wanted was to sleep and we could hear everything from area to coughing to people entering in and out.
To enter the rooms on the 4th floor you have to go through the lobby which is usually playing loud music until about 9pm. This was not great as we had a small baby that was woken up by every sound possible. Every night they played loud music and was possibly the worst floor to stay with a child. Hard to believe there was no rooms available on a higher quieter floor.
After being woken up multiple times by every noise possible - music, footsteps, guests, I went to the front desk at 10pm where ZACH was super helpful and accommodating and immediately put us in a corner room on the highest floor. This was drastically different, quieter and Zach went above and beyond. It was great but ridiculous that Pat had initially told us no rooms were available.
It’s baffling how one employee can ruin the experience for a customer. Zach did so great but we had gotten a sour taste from our initial interaction with Pat. He actually put us next to another family with a baby and once our baby calmed down, the other baby would start up. This was horrible for a getaway trip.
If you want peace avoid the 4th floor - ceilings are paper thin, especially the ceiling. you have to double park in the lobby and ride an elevator to the lobby floor - all inconvenient.
Shout out to Zach for all his kindness, sorry one employee ruined it for you and the team.
I’ve stayed in a few other hotels in the area and visit Portland frequently and definitely will say there are much better options available for the...

Good: New and clean, with some thoughtful design choices like the 3-way lighting switch reachable by the bedside. Good amount of counter space in the bathroom. The QR code tipping worked well, but there's no warning they're going to change $1.50 service fee.
Bad: lots of little design oversights, like hardwood floors with no boot tray or mat at the entryway, made it so the floor was impossibly sandy and salty within 1 day (and this was with immediately removing our shoes when we came in), and housekeeping didn't vacuum when they tidied up the room, so it stayed sandy and salty the whole stay.
The Bluetooth mirror in the bathroom is baffling. The touch controls were unresponsive and the indicator lights were so bright that it illuminates the whole room at night.
The bathroom door is frosted glass with the toilet immediately in front of it, so there's no sense of privacy.
The rainfall-style shower head was nice, but the spray doesn't reach the other side of the shower pan, so it becomes extremely slippery from soap after one shower, and there's no easy way to rinse it. Combined with no grab-bar at all in the shower, and it's a hazardous situation that is going to injure someone.
There's no drawer storage in the room, and no suitcase stand, so you have to leave your stuff in your suitcase and leave the suitcase on the chaise or settee, which then can't be used for other things.
The only towel hooks in the bathroom are 1) in the shower where it gets wet, and 2) as far away from the shower door as possible. It means the only practical place for the towel is over the top of the shower wall, but that's on rollers, so the towel gets tangled in the rollers unless you pick it up each time you open or close the door.
The two elevators have their buttons in a different configuration. It's not a huge deal, but it takes a moment the first time you get on the other elevator to realize the button is in a different position... if you're not paying attention, you end up on the wrong floor.
I think this place is just new and still figuring it out, but there were lots of these little glitches that made the stay less comfortable than a more...
Read moreCambria Hotel Portland Team, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the wonderful experience I recently had at your hotel. My stay from 2/2-2/5 exceeded my expectations, and I wanted to take a moment to specifically acknowledge the outstanding service and hospitality provided by your entire team.
From the warm welcome at check-in to the friendly interactions throughout my stay, your staff consistently demonstrated a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction. I spoke with the General Manager, Crystal before we arrived, she helped me with a mistake I had made during booking. I had such a positive interaction with her even though I'd needed to completely modify my stay just a few days before arriving. I was genuinely blown away by the outstanding customer service I was given before ever arriving at the hotel.
My room, was impeccably maintained and provided a comfortable and relaxing haven after a long day of exploring Portland. I especially enjoyed the view, the ridiculously comfortable King size bed, the overall layout and feel of the room. Honestly, we were so surprised by how ample the space was. The stunning view of the harbor was just icing on the cake. The housekeeping staff also deserves recognition for their diligence in ensuring the room was always spotless. Beyond the comfortable accommodations, I was also impressed with the convenient location of the hotel, which made it easy to walk to all the major attractions and restaurants. These elements contributed to a truly enjoyable and memorable experience.
Please extend my sincere thanks to all members of your team, from the front desk and housekeeping to the restaurant and bar staff. Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated. I would not hesitate to recommend the Cambria Hotel Portland to anyone visiting the city, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to return on my next trip.
Well done Cambria Hotel, see...
