This is our go to hotel when we go home to visit. It is centrally located to everywhere we want to visit. We arrived late on our check in day but called ahead to alert them. Daexia was polite but it seemed like we were bothering her. The king room we were given was disgusting and extremely small. I went to get ice and our ice maker on the 5th floor was completely unplugged. I went downstairs looking for ice and cups. Zack was now on duty and could have cared less to help us. He never once got out of the chair behind the desk. We actually sent what looked like a guest to go get coffee cups instead of getting them himself. We were exhausted to we fell asleep planning to deal with it the next morning.
We received a call from the front desk the next morning to move us because our toilet was flooding the room below is. Madison was extremely helpful and apologetic. They only polite and helpful employee we meet the entire stay.
We were moved to a queen suite which was 3x the size of the previous room on the same floor. The room was much cleaner but still need attention. There was glitter glue in several locations along with spots that needed cleaning on the carpet. The toilet tank lid was not made for the tank in our bathroom so it never set tight. Sadly the guest in 517 was constantly smoking marijuana in the parking lot and nothing was done about it. So the hall on that end of the 5th floor smelled of dead skunk.
The pool was completely disgusting. It looked like several drums of milk had been poured into it. The pool area had fumes of chlorine that made my eyes burn but the pool needed to be shocked not over chlorinated. You could not even see the bottom which is a safety hazard. I informed Zach and he told me it was cleaned daily and it was fine.
I know that Hampton Inns are at the lower in of the Hilton chain but I expect it to represent the Hilton brand properly. I felt like I was at a Choice hotel...
Read moreWe stayed here over Memorial day. Our cost for 2 nights was around $750. This did not include parking which was another $35 a night. The valet were always preoccupied when dropped our car and when we wanted to take our car out for a little bit. For example, on Sunday night we went to get our car and all of the valets were eating food while they were working. Not snacking, eating full on meals. In addition they were deep into conversation about what they were eating.I love food as much as the next guy, but when ai am at work my job comrs first. The situation made us feel like we were imposing. In addition, when we arrived at the hotel no assistance with unloading our luggage was offered or provided by the valet. The only person in the valet department that provided service worthy of your hotel was a young man that worked on Monday morning when we checkedout around 10am. . He actually helped load the bags, which is what I would expect from a 3 star hotel. The breakfast buffet was disappointing as well cold sausage, no forks or lids for the coffee/tea and over ripe bananas. The room was ok, except for the bathroom. Visible mold in the caulk. Pretty gross. It may seem like I am being pickey, but in order to justify your high rates and your stars you need to be delivering 3 star service. You are not. If you run out of forks or lids get some. FYI. All grocery stores sell cups with lidas and plastic forks. Don't tell a guest that paid way too much for the room that you are waiting for your delivery. The service ,quality of the room and hotel need to match the star level. In this case you do not. I am also still confused about the restaurant that closes at 5pm. I thought that to be a 3 star hotel or better you needed to have a restaurant on site with service through the dinner hour. You all are doing the bare minimum and could be doing so much more with very little...
Read moreWe (my family and I) go to Portland every year for a vacation just before school starts (we love the city and all it has to offer). We usually stay at another hotel up the street (not to be named but if you know the area, you can figure it out). However, one year we got locked out of our usual hotel and had to choose another.
We booked the Hampton Inn (Portland Downtown) through Expedia (non-refundable, non-changable) to get the best rate. Then we learned my son's school schedule changed and he was going to be starting in late August (which meant our reservation was blown and we needed to re-book).
Expedia couldn't help due to the nature of our reservation but they put me directly in touch with the manager of the Hampton Inn via a conference call (good customer service on Expedia's part even though they couldn't directly help me re-book). I explained our dilemma to the manager and within minutes he had moved our reservation back a week (and honored the same rate that I had gotten from Expedia).
Needless to say I was thankful and told him he was well within his right to take our money and not re-book us. He said "I'd rather make this work for you and have you as a future guest than to just take your money and never see you again." Well it worked! This will make our third year at the Hampton Inn in downtown Portland.
The rooms are nice and clean (it's not the Taj but then again, we're not paying for the Taj), the staff are always friendly, and the breakfast works for us. If you stay here and something isn't right or to your satisfaction, just let the desk staff and/or manager know and they will make it right. They value their guests. Simple as that. It's just a nice place to stay right in the heart of...
