Great food. Terrible service. Highly recommended to us. When we went , not busy. We wanted to get a margarita with our food so person taking our order suggested going next door to their “ partner” restaraunt. We did, had a great margarita- ordered two tacos and a burrito from Papis. We waited an hour and 15 minutes. The server went next door TWICE to check on our food. He apologized- we were relaxing, had a great margarita. When the food came it was excellent . After we paid we walked over to Papis next door, waited in the short line. Asked if it would be possible to speak to a manager. The woman taking orders said “ no manager is on the premises”. Her tag said “manager” below her name. I leaned in, spoke softly and said “ hey I just want you to know- the food was really good but considering your own staff recommended ordering next door- we were disappointed that it took well over an hour to get our food- and then it was cold”.” I just thought you should know”. The response? “ I feel threatened by your comment”.”what??””. I’m telling you in a respectful way- the food was great- but we were disappointed that we waited over an hour to be served… and this is threatening to you? I know people can be difficult, even nasty. But if a customer that loved you’re food tells you the service was slow… and your response is to lie and say you are not the manager on shift and that a calm and ( trying to be helpful) comment that your partner restaurant is not getting their orders in a timely way is an excuse for a victim response from you—- just wow. Don’t expect good reviews or return business from people that love the food but are not into drama. Seriously- no voices were raised, a good time was had by all- other than the absurdly long wait. Your attitude...

VERY RUDE STAFF. We went today Friday, August 13, 2021 at approximately 2pm. It was my first time coming to Papi Chulo’s. My co-worker recommended the place and left embarrassed.

Besides the tall cashier with black hair and the cooks, the entire staff was outrageously rude. Granted there was about a handful of people in regards to staff, three of the 5 people we interacted with were rude right off the bat. From not even letting us ask a question about masks (by not letting us get a word in or take the time to hear our question) to literally not acknowledging us when addressing their rudeness. Unbelievable! They should be ashamed of themselves.

I also just read their one star reviews on Google and found a post from a year ago where the establishment had the audacity to respond and call the guest out by responding to his honest review in a prideful demeaning way advising the guest to get his facts straight after sharing that the food was bland. LOL!!! Is this place joking? Who literally does that?!

To run a local business with good food only to damper the experience by the rude staff is very unfortunate. The food was good but not great to where we will be returning.

As for drinks, the margaritas were ok. We asked if they had other types of tequila we could choose from however they advised they were pre-made with a well tequila I’ve never heard of. Honestly, they were not good and were very sweet.

I’ve worked in hospitality for over 10+ years. I have served and managed, I can tell you this venue does not know how to treat their guests. The negative attitude is not worth going there again. If I want to be mistreated, then I will go to...

We went there on Wednesday and ordered some chicken quesadillas for the kids (among other stuff for us adults) and basically everyone who ate the chicken (including me) ended up getting terribly sick with diarrhea and vomiting all day after. I called the business to bring this to their attention and my complaint was handled very poorly and unprofessionally. I asked for someone in charge (wasn’t trying to be a ‘Karen’ it’s just I know it’s not the cashier’s or server’s fault) but the lady couldn’t even give me a name (she kept referring to the staff by nicknames instead) and then she finally put Viri (Bibi?) on the phone but she took no responsibility, asked about the total of my order (I don’t know why because I wasn’t asking for a refund) and said she would have someone call me back. I am still waiting for a call back 3 days later. Look, I am a server in the SF Bay Area and have been working in this industry for 15 years so believe me when I tell you I take pause to post negative reviews about a business during COVID-19 times, especially knowing how hard this industry has been hit by the pandemic but I also recognize that now more than ever everyone who works in a restaurant needs to come through with adhering to sanitary protocols and offer top class customer service and if a patron were to get sick from eating at my restaurant that’s a big deal. With so many other choices around downtown Portland I would not recommend this...

Overall this place was pretty solid! When my husband and I arrived it was PACKED! Even so the service was very prompt and we were able to order right away. we both ordered chicken burrito's mine without sour cream and pico, his was standard. We also go two margaritas. The flavor of the margaritas was good not to sweet not to sour, also packed a good amount of liquor. We were able to snag and table and our food arrived shortly after. Mine unfortunately wasn't without pico as requested so Matt was able to track someone down and inform them of the mistake. He came over and took my order again and headed back into the kitchen for a new one. It was packed to the ceiling with people so not shocked a mistake happened. After receiving the second burrito this one was slightly different. This one was not toasted like the previous one had been. No big deal to me. My husband LOVED his and said the flavors were all so rich and it was one of the best burritos he has had and would love to come back again. Mine was good as well, did have a bit of spice for my liking but none the less good. I feel they were accurately priced and the portion size was pretty large. Some things I think this place could do to improve would maybe be to have nicer tables/chairs. Being in such a trendy area it would be cool to see something a little different than cheapy restaurant diner style tables. Would come back again and try something new.

If you go around noon or in the afternoon, the place is usually almost empty—which makes it surprising that the food still takes a while to come out. I’d rate the burritos a 3 out of 5. The margaritas are pre-made, and since there’s no actual bartender, don’t expect much in that department. The food overall feels overrated; the chips were oily and lacked freshness. The location is great, and the interior looks nice, but they really need to improve their customer service. One thing that stood out was how dusty the place is—it feels like it's constantly in need of a good cleaning. Overall, it has potential, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

Burritos are always soggy, the tortillas fall apart and it feels like you are eating soup. I just took my burrito home less than a 5 minute walk, and the burrito fell apart as soon as it was unwrapped- the tortilla at the bottom was completely soggy. It’s just a really wet and messy burrito experience. This is pretty typical- I go back because it’s so close to me- but I may need to move on completely it’s a pretty expensive option- I could get a personal pizza next door for less than the burrito. Edit: went back again for a cochinita burrito, Same thing happened as before so I had to finish with a fork in the restaurant. Taking it to 2 stars.
