We rented a 3 bedroom home in Scottsdale ("Chateau De Vie") from Vacasa over spring break (March 2019)
To say that we were disappointed with our experience is an understatement. The condition of the home was appalling and furthermore it was advertised as sleeping 8 people but it only slept 6. This after numerous calls and emails to Vacasa to ask about the fact that the online profile of the property advertised "two double beds" in one room (for the 4 kids) but the photos appeared to have only two single beds in the room. Each time it was confirmed for me that there were in fact two doubles in the room. The agent I spoke to by email even told me that she had reached out to the local property rep to confirm. I note that the website description for the home has since been changed to indicate that there are only two singles in the one bedroom. I am shocked that this mistake was on your website for several months.
This was to be a home for two families of four each, and we booked well in advance to ensure that we got "good" accommodation. This home was nothing like the photos and as soon as we walked in it smelled like the "morning after" of a bar. My children wrote this review below, but it very adequately states the condition of the home and our disappointment. Vacasa has offered us a discount on a future stay but that is not adequate compensation as we spent countless hours trying to find alternate accommodation, ultimately at a much higher cost. Vacasa offered us no alternative accommodation.
Our review:
"We rented this house 3 months before arriving and we were all very excited to be staying in a house together. Little did we know that this would wreak havoc on our trip. As we walked up to the house we were greeted by dead plants all over the front yard, and garbage in the bushes, the mailbox was jammed pack with mail spilling out. We opened the front door and were immediately overwhelmed by the stench of alcohol, and cigarettes. We all spread out and the moment we walked into the bedroom, which according to the description of the house along with multiple re-assuring phone calls and emails, was supposed to have two double beds but they were very clearly two singles. We entered the backyard through a dust-covered sliding door, and we were immediately disappointed by what we saw. The pool was disgusting, there were weeds all over the back yard, the pillows had been thrown into disarray, there was nowhere to sit around the pool, and there where cigarette butts all over the backyard and a ashtray, even though it was very clearly stated in the brochure, and online that smoking was prohibited. As we opened each closet door we were afraid of what we might find inside, and as we turned on the light to the master bedroom, one of us felt an electric shock and the lights stopped working. Moments later we were seated on the couch, one of us said "This place is a piece of garbage" and the back of the couch fell off. In disbelief about what had just happened, we decided to look around some more, the bathroom was worse than anything we had seen before, the shower curtain was on the floor, the bath mat was covered in dust and stains, and so were the towels. There were dirt and dust in every corner of the house, along with cracks on the walls, a crooked tv on the wall, and not to mention the massive bean bag chair in the garage. We were searching for some entertainment, while we were waiting to find out whether we would get our money back, little did we know displayed on a shelf was a "Hamas" book. We then had to spend countless hours and money trying to find a different place to stay.
Vacasa did refund us our money but unfortunately it was the busiest two weeks of the year in Scottsdale and the limited accommodation that was available was at a premium.
I am very disappointed in Vacasa. Their head office is in Oregon and they are to have an agent on the ground but this property is clearly not cared for. I also had to phone Vacasa no less than 5 times in order to confirm a refund...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a nightmare of a company that could care less about customer service. They rented my home for $93 a night when my minimum rate was $235!!!
Going rate is about $300 a night & they did this to me in peak season!
I read reviews online & ex-employees said they arenāt surprised what they did and how much worse it got after they went public.
On our Next door app I posted asking neighbors if they have used them & one lady said that they have a bad reputation & had money problems.
They lost a lot of homes due to poor service & shady practices. āFraud & shadyā popped up a lot.
They have shorted me about $10,000 for the reservation that spans over 3 months.
They shorted me more than I received! And wonāt reduce the 20% fee for their screw up!!!
I suspect they are telling the homeowner the house rented for $93, minimum was $235 & going advertised rate around $300.
So I suspect they are telling owners the house rented for $93 & really charging the $300 & taking the money away from the homeowner.
That is what I was thinking then I read reviews online & people posted that is what they were thinking!
I also asked who took this booking. They must have manually changed the price to be lower. The advertised prices were around $290 nt.
I have requested to see the receipt of the booking & have been ignored. What are they trying to hide? If you have nothing to hide, show me the receipt.
Everyday I have been posting or reporting them & will continue to until I get paid my money.
I read they have been sued so many times that they changed their contract stating they want you to go through their arbitration company & we all know how that would end up.
They broke the rule that the person who books the reservation has to be staying at the home & she isnāt.
Itās a young guy that is there with his dog. The reservation stated it was a single woman with no pets & to my surprised, I check my entry ring camera to confirm who is coming in & not someone else.
When I questioned it, the manager was like āYeah, we know.ā Itās ok with them but not with me.
Iāve had to have them cancel other reservations because of them booking it so low.
So many times I go ignored & have to send a ā?ā the next day & have waited weeks / months for them do do anything. Extremely frustrating. Not sure what Iām paying 20% for?
I spend so many hours everyday on this & have for the past year spent many hours. I would spend less time if I took care of it myself.
Now itās cutting in on my time off work by a lot.
They donāt deserve 1 star.
Pay me my money Vacasa!!!! Iām not going away! I filed with the DOJ today and others! š”š¤¬
*UPDATE 3 days later.
Still no payment and why am I being told by the Florida team that they refuse to show me the receipt of payment for MY house??!
I told them to redact the personal information other than Cheryl H that booked it so there is no sensitive information.
Just the original email confirmation of the amount she paid for my home. I want to see the receipt, if Vacasa isnāt hiding anything, then they will show me the amount.
When I get the receipt and the correct amount of my shortage, I will post it on here. Iām also contacting the FTC again to tell them the refusal of the receipt if I donāt receive it by the end of the day today.
You know my account & have my email on there you can send it to & please have the Florida team to not wait another 3-5 business days to deposit my money & do it today.
What does Vacasa have to hide? Why havenāt I received my payment from Januarys and Februarys shortage yet?
I was told that they processed my payment on Wednesday, it wasnāt then told it was done Thursday& it wasnāt, then they said they processed it today, so I contacted the bank & they said, no, they didnāt see it yet.
Why would Vacasa lie and said they sent it when they didnāt 3 times?
Iāve been waiting I was supposed to get payment Feb & March and STILL HAVE...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe recently stayed at a Vacasa property in Anacortes, Washington. We arrived on a Saturday and Stayed through Thursday. Our experience was wonderful from start to finish. The Vacasa staff were responsive from the reservation to sending us some of our forgotten valuables we'd inadvertently left behind.
I cannot say enough good things about this property. Perfectly clean and prepared when we arrived at 4:00. The property manager answered her phone instantly when we called to confirm. The lock is a cinch to figure out. The four separate bedrooms allowed our family of six such privacy and comfort (important with three teenagers and a twenty-something). There are two separate bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen bed and second with three beds (two twins and a double); there are two separate bedrooms downstairs, each with a queen bed. Our boys were able to sleep late in their separate bedrooms and our daughters talked late into the night in their large upstairs room (with three beds!) Mom could putter around the kitchen and have my tea in the big window room with no fear of waking anyone up. My husband and I slept in the large bedroom on the main floor and were delighted and grateful for the Tempurpedic mattress topper. I SLEPT, like, REALLY SLEPT, on vacation, in a strange bed! It was awesome.
In the bay below we saw Orcas! and seals (three of them playing with each other, SO cute) and once a pod of what looked like porpoise. In the air above we saw eagles and hummingbirds and beautiful birds of many stipes, and then several groups of fighter jets flew overhead and made my husband's vacation complete.
The kitchen is the best equipped I've ever enjoyed on vacation. A double oven. A massive and up-to-date refrigerator. They have everything you could want in equipment from the coffee grinder to the gorgeous plates to cookie sheets and beautiful glass salad bowls and knives that actually cut. Every cupboard is clearly labeled to make finding what you need a breeze.
The ART in this place was an added bonus of happy. I could just sit in the large windowed room out front and stare and the huge oil canvas of kelly greens and royal blues for an hour; so beautiful. The kitchen table easily sat our family of six for dinner and could have accommodated ten. The picnic table on the deck is similarly oversized. We opened the windows all over the home for a breath of sea air that cools the house down in two minutes. You'll love to hear the sea just outside, just as we did. So calming.
It's a twenty minute drive to the ferry in Anacortes for the trip to the San Juans. A four-hour drive to Rainier (FABULOUS hikes). An hour and a half to the Chihuly museum or the airport. My husband says this is the nicest property we've ever stayed at and that's saying something. (I loved the 18th century farmhouse in Southern France, but this property, as a whole, is my second favorite and this kitchen is by far the best.)
The photos on the site just do not do justice to this amazing and gorgeous home. The neighborhood is upscale, clean and quiet. The bay is beyond beautiful. The property is spectacular. Go. Enjoy. Tell the silver seals in the bay that...
