Being a seasoned alcoholic beverage consumer and elder Portland socialite, I can say with my best judgement, that Rose and Thistle is my favorite bar in Portland. This dive Bar has the best ambiance and keeps it’s genuine personality in tact. The Husband and Wife Duo that own this fine establishment are a dream team. Their personalities and capabilities compliment one another. The staff is all so friendly, hard working and are clearly happy working there and with one another. Happy staff creates a happy atmosphere and even happier drinks and food. Their music is eclectic and not too loud to drown out your discussion with the numerous regulars and neighborhood patrons. It is ADA accessible at street level to enjoy the indoor bar area for all abilities. Out back is gem of a patio that is thoughtfully constructed, to enjoy being outdoors, while also including warmers and coverage from our sporadic Portland rain and weather. The food was beyond what you might expect in a dive bar. The quality and the quantity of the serving sizes are quite ample and sure to soak up some of their incredible booze beverages they offer at a more than reasonable price. There are plenty of lottery machines, a super fun Magic Box vending machine, clean bathrooms, and TV’s for those that enjoy sports ball. There is certainly something for everyone and it feels inclusive to all backgrounds of folks. Hands down, Best Dive Bar...

Entered the place at 5:50pm. We only had 40mins and wanted to get a quick bite to eat. The server came by quickly, gave us menus and asked us for drinks and we asked for water. She left and talked with her co worker for a bit. Helped the table across from us and about 10mins later she came with the water. I was going to tell her we were in a rush and that we knew what we wanted. But she quickly dropped the water off and said “I will be back quickly to get your order” I didn’t have time to say anything before she walked off. Then we never saw her again. Another sever came by at 6:17pm and asked if we wanted to order. At this time we only had 13mins left and we had only gotten water in the last 27mins of waiting here. I told the other server that we have been waiting for 27mins and had only gotten water and we have just ran out of time. She said that she had only just gotten here and for the most part was like this isn’t my problem. She took our menus and walked off. Not even a sorry or anything. My friends and I have been coming here for years. I have probably spent $1000’s here over the last 7 years or more. This will be the last time I set foot in this place. I use to tell everyone about this place. Now I will tell everyone about my last experience here instead. I simple sorry would...

My Significant Other, A Puerto Rican Woman, A Noted Doctor and Scientist and a group of us last night went to this establishment. The people in the group who looked Ethnic and were loud, as we were all enjoying ourselves after a great medical conference, were refused service, given ice water and told, you are drunk if you don't like it get out not only by the Server but also the supposed Owner of the place who said her name was Kira. My Girlfriend was reduced to tears, never having experienced what seemed to be out and out Racism and Rejection like this, almost like being Black at a Lunch Counter in the South in the 1960's. When I called back, I was treated like a fool on the phone, told I was obviously drunk, ridiculous and stupid. We have submitted a complaint to the BBB and also will file complaints with the Civil Rights Offices of Washington and Oregon State, I have lodged a complaint with the Mayor's Office, Chamber Of Commerce and the Portland OR. Media Outlets. I stand by this and know I am not making it up, after 3 glasses of wine I know my judgement was not THAT impaired when we got there. My real name is included with...

Fab patio (it’s huge, and plenty of covered or openly sunny spots to chill) and unlike most patios, pretty quick and attentive friendly service. They also have cute lighting for night time and I noticed heaters in the covered areas. Pretty good selection of beers and liquor (not huge but sometimes it’s nice not having too too many choices). Just googled their menu and I’m pretty impressed. Excited to come back and try some grub, as they’re also inclusive to vegetation and vegan diets. My one peeve is when I was brought my drink I didn’t get a napkin so after I squeezed my lime my hands had lime juice on them. A water brought with my drink would be nice too since it’s 82 degrees out on the patio. But nothing I can’t ask for, just something you typically expect. I’ll be back 😊

Perfect hole in the wall bar with a nice menu and a very large, covered back patio. I can’t believe I’m not already a regular at this place. The bartender was super efficient and friendly. The food menu is slightly elevated for bar food but still what you’re looking for when you’re craving bar food. The patio has tons of separate seating areas, a TV and it is well covered for rainy days. The patio is also dog friendly and (even though it’s almost completely closed-in) smoke friendly as there was a table of about 10 old white dudes smoking pipes just fumigating the place. I don’t recommend going on pipe club day. Parking can be a challenge in the neighborhood.
