We go to this restaurant religiously. Or at least we used to. Tonight I TRIED to place a to go order. I called 8 times before some one picked up the phone and hung up on me. I finally got someone to pick up the phone, take my order then tell me that they were not taking to go orders tonight. I asked to speak to a manger but was told he would not talk to me. I explained that it was not even 8pm and they were open until 10 so I could see no reason that they could not accommodate an order. I was told I should try a different restaurant. I asked if I came in and ordered would they turn me away. She said no. I ask why the could not take my order over the phone. She finally said it would take an hour if I wanted the order taken. I asked again if it would take a hour if we were sitting in the restaurant. She said no. I told her to place the order and I would be there in 30 minutes to pick it up and she hung up on me. I will be going in to speak to a manager in person sometime soon because this type of customer service or lack there of is unacceptable in the restaurant industry. I worked in a very robust sushi restaurant and would have never turned away a customer, let alone referred them to...
Read moreIt took the restaurant two hours to make a relatively simple pickup order of donburi (rice bowl) and two tuna maki, but I was willing to cut them some slack and chalk it up to staffing difficulties. I'm giving one star because:
the manager/host kept me waiting around for 30 minutes because my order was supposedly missing an item. In the end this wasn't the case — my order was complete all along and I was stuck there for 30 minutes for no reason. I didn’t receive an apology or even a hint of sympathy from the manager for wasting my time.
perhaps as a result of the long wait, the tempura in my rice bowl was soggy and even after re-heating, well below par. I could hardly tell what I was eating. The accompanying miso was bland and the salad meh.
the entire staff was mask-less and simply shrugged when a dine-in couple cut their meal short as a result. For reference, I’m writing this 12/20 at the peak of the Omicron wave here in the Northeast.
Based on the attitudes of the staff, I don’t see things changing at Sapporo any time soon and won’t be...
Read moreWe arrived at opening and were immediately ushered into a back corner. Ordered, specifically for sake and tamago to arrive at the end of the meal. They were delivered nearly immediately with 20-30 minute waits for the further additona to our order. (We were there for just shy of 2 hours... The bulk of that time spent waiting.) When our chirashi bowl did arrive, it had a modest assortment of fish, 3in long, and adorned with several pickled vegetables and tamago over 2 cups of poorly seasoned rice.. (For those familiar with chirachi, they are equal parts fish and rice with no vegetable adornments... And the inclusion of tamago was a joke, like adding an oreo to a steak dinner.) On the whole, the fish was poorly marinated, sushi rice dry and lightly seasoned; an unfortunate dining experience.
But if you and your company doesn't know much about fish/rice marinating, it's not bad for...
