Traveled to Portland for the first time on my Birthday yesterday. Landed and wanted to try different coffee places as we’ve heard so much about the Portland area coffee. Stopped here due to a cute Coraline sign they had out. Got to the counter, asked the male who was helping us about flavoring of a specific coffee on their board. He replied as rude as humanly possible….. “This isn’t Starbucks!” My spouse immediately stopped further interaction and just stared at him. After an awkward silence I made my attempt at continuing the transaction…. I explained STILL BEING NICE that we knew it wasn’t Starbucks and that we were not locals and just wanted to try something new. He just stared at me blankly….. I then asked if a latte was just a normal latte? His face was more than annoyed and he goes “yeah!!” At this point it was clear that any and everything that came out of our mouth was going to piss this guy off and he finally asked …. “What kind of milk ?” I just said whatever you have is fine. He repeated…. “whatever?” That annoyed him too it seems…he then punches the register while complaining to his coworkers he hadn’t been on his break yet and stopped off to the back. The other ppl there seemed nice but the experience was basically ruined….. didn’t even really drink the coffee. The guys was the only non ethnic person working the register around 1:15 pm that day incase this company actually cares to look into the staff they employ. Guys a horrible experience and it may not mean much but we are certainly going for other coffee spots...
Read moreWow, I wish I could say I was blown away by the coffee and service, sadly the only memorable part of Stumptown was Jesica's abysmal effort to offer customer service or basic kindness. I was awestruck by her blatant disregard for basic customer service, or public decency. Jesica was rude, flippant, dismissive, and God forbid she has to look up from her cell phone, which she was actively using at the register, and move to grab a napkin. I spilled a small amount of liquid, and was going to do the decent thing a wipe it up, I asked for a napkin and she told me "over there at the coffee bar". I asked her name, she ignored me and covered her badge! I didn't even ask in a rude tone. Thankfully the other employees chimed in and I did catch a glimpse of her tag. I have been a server/bartender/manager for 17 years, and if I ever saw my employee treat anyone the way she treated me, she would be terminated immediately. Stay off your phone, put a smile on your face, show up ready to work, leave you bad attitude at the door, and go above and beyond to offer a bright and pleasant experience at Stumptown. Management, definitely send in a few secret shoppers, she won't last long. You could tell her coworkers were used to picking up the slack, and going above and beyond to over compensate for her terrible attitude. Thanks to the lovely employees who picked up her slack, and tried their best to mitigate her poor...
Read moreI read a previous review that said you shouldn’t compare Stumptown’s airport location to their standalone locations, however I think that is exactly the point. It should be comparable because this is representing Stumptown not only to locals that love it in the city, but to people from all over! I’m not sure who does the hiring, but these baristas are not qualified by most coffee making standards it seems. Milk is horribly steamed, espresso shots taste burnt and bitter, and drinks are almost never made correctly. Twice if not 3 times we asked to make sure our lattes were made with honey and were begrudgingly told “yes”, only to sip on the most burnt tasting latte with no sweetness at all. I wanted to avoid spending my money at Starbucks, but honestly, we might’ve...
