Future Dreams — Local services in Portland

This is the first comics store I visited back in the 80s when I was a kid (when they were at their original location that was also on Burnside) and I also eventually ended up becoming a regular at their second location that they once had in Gateway, so I was glad to see they are still keeping it going. The current location can be a little hard to spot as it isn’t a storefront but occupies a basement space in a building. It is a small space but is definitely packed with product. The best thing about my experience when I visited with my son last month was the service we received. We were greeted when we entered and the employee (maybe the owner?) immediately came from behind the counter and took my son over to a rack of comics when my son asked him a question. I've been a loyal customer of Future Dreams for many years now since I was just a kid and for very good reason. When I moved to a different state after graduating college, I arranged a mail delivery for comic titles I wished to continue collecting. For over two decades now, the owner has been consistently putting issue after issue aside for me and regularly sending them via mail to each address I have lived at. I have not missed even one issue in all these years and this business has worked diligently with me to update my information and charge accounts. They have also kept up communication to alert me of new titles or when I wanted to add things to my list. I am grateful that this business has lasted over the years through times both good and bad because the level of dedication to their long term customers is unmatched in my opinion. There’s a section in this store that I really love, but it’s not even accessible due to the massive piles of boxes blocking half of the store. The man who owns the store seems nice, but either too lazy to open his mail or incapable of moving things around. When I asked if we could access this section he just said it wasn’t available and when I asked if he had an estimated time for when it would be accessible he just said there was no date. I would’ve even moved the stuff myself. It’s a shame to watch this place become more and more of a fire hazard of junk. I won’t...
