I've lived in Portland 20 years, and have been coming to this location for just about that long. I am just completely over the nasty, pretentious barista persona. I asked for a flat white and the one barista said " oh so that's basically our latte". They must have sensed I was doubtful, so a second barista, " What does flat white mean to you?" and I said very little milk. And he said " So you mean a cortado" with the most smug, know it all, condescending look on his face.
The whole interaction was obnoxious, as if they own coffee culture and talk to people like they don't know anything. Bruh, a flat white, a latte and a cortado are all different things, I've spend time in Europe, where they know how to make a flat white, which is much less milk than a latte, and just a tad more than a cortado. Anytime you ask for a flat white in Portland, you get a latte. The city does not know how to make them, and the baristas don't seem to want to actually be self-reflective, check their nonsense hipster ego, actually have humility in their interactions, and be friendly to people instead of talking down to them.
I just walked out. Go just a few doors down to the lovely Egyptian coffee shop, what a beautiful owner who treats people with care and affection, and honestly has much...
Read moreMy 8 1/2 month pregnant wife and my mother-in-law came here today (12/13/17 5:45pm) for a coffee. My wife was tiered and sat down while they decided what to order and wait for the restroom. Let keep in mind my wife is a migrant and does not speak English fluently as of yet nor does my mother-in-law. They were told that there is no more coffee and to leave. When I drove there they had told me that the seating is for customers only that it is policy. Tell me this. How the hell would they even know if my pregnant wife and mother-in -law were not intending to buy a coffee. Also I find it horrible that they would tell a 8 1/2 month pregnant legal migrant that she is not allowed to sit while you allow vagrants to sit in for hours without any intention of buying anything. If this is the attitude of this local shop I ask everyone to not support this business. How can a business post up that all races, all genders ect.. are welcome. I'll tell you some they did not make a 8 1/2 month pregnant migrant feel welcome here not only that they told her that she is not allowed to sit, there is no more coffee, and to leave. If you claim you are for the migrants then do not support this business because this business clearly does not.

Read moreLove this little cafe inside of Powell's. Spent many a day here getting work done or reading. They serve good drinks. I take a pass on the food, though.
Fresh Pot isn't a very big cafe, so sometimes all the seats are taken if it's an afternoon or a weekend. No problem. Just pop into Powell's for a few minutes, peruse some books, and come back. You'll find a seat.
The serve Stumptown coffee, including the Nitro! Which I try to get excited about but can't since I'm not a coffee person. However, other coffee lovers love this.
I like their tea selection and they'll give you another jolt of hot water for free, which I appreciate.
The only thing I don't like is that food. the pastries never taste as good as they look. And heaven forbid you order something that needs preparation, like a bagel. they will toast it until it's hard and then not even spread the butter or cream cheese for you. So disappointing.
There are tables and chairs and a bench, none of which are ultra comfortable but serviceable enough. Plenty of plus and outlets for everyone. And free Wi-Fi.
The staff is pleasant, the people who come here tend to be great, and it's in...
