I had to think on if my poor experience was me being sensitive but I still have a bad feeling hours after leaving. I literally grew up loving this store but wonāt be returning now. I shouldāve said something at the store. After browsing for different healing gems and trinkets for a grieving friends birthday, the older woman approached me, stopped and just stared at me. I asked a question, she acted standoffish and offered me a tray to shop, I said oh thank you! She then paused and said yeahā¦weāre gonna keep this at the counter. I was not acting shifty. Iām Buddhist Japanese and they are a bunch of white women selling from my culture. I was taking time looking at cheaper items but that does not make me a criminal. When I checked out I asked to see the chains for a pendant and they would only show me the ācheapyā chains despite showing the blonde girl right next to me and several other customers the nice jewelry. Acting awkward as if they were told to keep an eye on me. Overall felt racially discriminated against for what? Not sure. I was walking around with some cheaper items trying to decide and yes they have no way of knowing my intentions but I was dressed nicely, am an Asian woman, healthcare professional in my 30s and no other store on Hawthorne treated me that way today or my whole life honestly. I regret spending money there especially after being treated as unable to afford nice things when I wouldāve spent more on a nice chain...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI travel for work building electrical substations, but I hit it off fast with my partner and had been turning down opportunities so that I could stay. Finally I received an offer I didnāt wanna turn down. I knew the news would break her heart but I wanted her to know I meant business with our relationship. I looked at Fred Meyer for ideas but it was all to serious and modern. Anyway I lost track of time doing chores so that I could see her and thought Gold Door was open really late on a Friday in Portland? No! I was doing laundry when I realized they close a 7pm and it 625pm and itās a 35 min drive!!!!!! I didnāt wanna my plan ruined so I threw everything in the truck, called Gold Door to verify google was correct on the hours of operation. I got near the location and parked where I knew there was parking cause I had No second to spare. Which happened to be Fred Meyer. I jumped out of my truck and started huffing it in my boots. It was about a block or so and Iām pretty sure they stayed open just for me cause I called and as I ran up they were all āare you the guy that called?ā Anywhoser thanks again for all the help and staying open on a Friday night for love š she cried about the bad news but loved the ring and the promise that came with it.
That said she needed the ring resized. Which I didnāt realize costs extra. And she had to go in 3 or 4 separate times to do. So I would not recommend them resizing it at...
Ā Ā Ā Read more:::::My opinion has changed, please see update below.::::: I'm even telling my friends in other states to check out the website. The place Always has new treasures waiting to be found, & despite my low income & eclectic taste - I found engagement rings that were PERFECT! (We both got one.) Lars was particularly wonderful, & it's not all jewelry - something for the 'special' inside everyone.
:UPDATE: 02/17 We thought it would be nice to go back for some new rings and perhaps a few other trinkets as well. I tried to get their attention for almost five minutes as I waited outside one of the jewelry cases. Finally I decided it wasn't the jewelry for me and we moved on. At another jewelry case the same thing happened. It then happened at a third, at a trinket case, at a case of semi-precious stones, and at a fourth jewelry case where we waited particularly long because it was the one we had gotten our original rings at.
They weren't busy, they were looking at pictures of a customer's dog on her phone, talking to a customer about the weather, and one was just standing there eating. We felt so blatantly ignored that we chose not to get the other things we'd picked up and to not go...
