I don't know what happened... or how. I dont believe I've ever been more disappointed by a meal in portland.
I just picked it up and discovered the meat is beyond dry. I don't even know how someone can dry burnt ends and brisket this much. I would have thought it impossible.
The brisket was on its way to becoming beef jerky and was almost as chewy.
The sauce for the bone dry burnt ends is a liquidy BBQ vinaigrette that was called sweet and sticky BBQ sauce?
The potato salad was warm and more of a mashed potato mixture of sorts.
The fried cheese on the sandwich was chewy and not flavorful. The bottom of the bread fell apart completely by the lightest touch because of how soggy it was.
I just... I don't understand any part of the execution here. I couldn't eat this. I never waste food and I absolutely couldn't eat this.
Response to owner: The problem with my order started when I decided to order from your restaurant after seeing reviews that made it extremely clear that you have a severe quality control and consistency issue.
As you can see in the photo, that does not look crispy or like deep fried pork belly. It looks awful. I assumed your employee accidentally gave me dry old brisket by mistake. If that is pork belly, lord help us all. Additionally, there was not sauce on that. As can be seen again in the dusty, dry photo. I am not the only reviewer to describe your food this way. Please stop blaming customers for quality control issues.
I was not 45 minutes late. I have the quoted time and the transaction times. I came by, the food wasn't ready so I went to the store next door, bought beers to go, then came for the ordered food. Again, blaming your customer. The meat was dry before it was ever put on a sandwich.
The pork belly bites I purchased were so dry, I can't even fathom it. It disgusted me and I had to spit it out. It had a horrible aftertaste. My partner couldn't eat it either.
I am from the deep south. I know meat and BBQ. I make my own burnt ends, often. I know your meat was terribly dry before it ever came near my order.
This was the worst food cart experience in portland that I've ever had in the decade I've lived here. I'd be hesitant to post this review if others hadn't echoed the same exact thing about your dry, overcooked menu items and inconsistency. You blaming me solidifies my...
Read moreAs a grandmother, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Wonderboy's Smokestack BBQ. The sauces were truly divine and added a great depth of flavor to all of the dishes I tried. The chicken wings were particularly tasty and had a nice balance of smokiness and heat. The pulled pork was delicious and moist, and I appreciated that it wasn't overly fatty. I also have to say that the BBQ mac and cheese was some of the best I've ever had - it was creamy and had a great smoky flavor. The coleslaw was also solid, with a nice balance of sweetness and tanginess. But the real standout for me was the burnt ends - they were incredibly tender and flavorful, and I was impressed that they weren't full of bad fat blubber. Overall, I highly recommend Wonderboy's Smokestack BBQ to anyone looking for delicious, authentic BBQ with an...
Read moreIf you’re curious about Portland’s BBQ scene, this place does not disappoint. The brisket and pulled pork are heavy hitters, but the real winner is their BBQ tacos.
It beats Matts BBQ tacos at great notion by a country mile. Wonderboy could have taken a similar route and been just as basic with their take on tacos + BBQ, but whatever genius lives behind WONDERBOY’s food truck went bold with their tacos and delivered an exceptional dose of culinary creativity leaving you wondering WTF you just ate, and how the hell they managed to make the best taco the world has ever seen.
If I you’re looking for basic tacos, go to LA, if you’re looking for basic BBQ, go to Matts, if you want your mouth to go on a magical journey that pairs tortillas, crispy cheese crust, pickled everything with meat good enough for the...
