AMERICA'S BEST WINGS — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I really wanted to like this place, but after visiting America Best Wings, I left feeling uneasy and disappointed — mostly because of serious concerns about food safety and kitchen hygiene.

First off, the entire kitchen is hidden behind a closed swinging door. Customers have no visibility into how the food is being prepared. That’s not always a problem, but when the front counter area is already messy and unorganized, it makes you wonder what the back looks like.

One of my biggest worries is what happens if food falls on the floor. With the kitchen completely out of view, it’s hard not to think: Would they pick it up and keep using it? I obviously can’t confirm that, but just the thought is enough to make you lose your appetite.

Even worse, I noticed employees going in and out of the kitchen and restroom without washing their hands, at least from what I could see. Some were not wearing gloves at all while handling food. These are basic hygiene steps that should never be skipped in any food business.

As for the food itself — some of it was undercooked, and other items were burnt. The chicken wings were dry and over-fried in some places, but still oddly soft and pink near the bone in others. The fries were soggy and tasted like old oil. It didn’t feel fresh, and it definitely didn’t feel safe.

Overall, the whole experience made me feel uncomfortable. I didn’t trust the cleanliness of the kitchen, I didn’t feel confident about the food, and I definitely won’t be coming back. There are too many other options out there to risk getting sick.

This was my second visit to this restaurant. I was disappointed with the condition of the inside. The ceiling was about to cave-in in areas, there was a leak of an air unit around the drink station, and they were many torn signs on the door. All the tables were dirty and the chairs seemed tossed about. There was no one in the restaurant during my visit, and the associate behind the counter was on his cell phone when I entered, so I know the lack of cleanliness was not due to being busy.

I was also surprised by the prices. $16 for a combo of a bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a fountain drink.

I have given two stars, because the food was made fresh, was hot, and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The fries were decent, but had no salt or flavoring. The bacon cheeseburger was fine, but it was nothing spectacular. It was certainly not worth the price.

Well the food was better than a traditional fast food restaurant, the dirty restaurant and the high prices will keep me...

I ordered garlic parmesan wings... they were overcooked with little to no flavor. They tasted like regular fried wings cooked to the point that they were dried out!!! Service was HORRIBLE! Waited 30 mins for wings because they didn't put in a ladies order that was called in.... so the felt the need to skip my order to please her. Not only that, they also called orders that were placed wayyyyyy after mine. Once he realised my order hadn't been called he went to that back looking for it. I finally get called to pick up my order and he says "is everything good" with a big smile on his face.... asking again "everything is good right"!!! I just looked at him. By then I'd already determined my opinion of this establishment. So to me it's not worth your money or time to visit this restaurant despite all the hype it was given. I've had better service and wings at...
