1/20/2025 update… Toscana Chophouse in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, delivers a dining experience that impresses on every level. From the moment the house-made focaccia arrived—served with a flavorful blend of olive oil and roasted garlic—it was clear this meal would be memorable. The bread was perfectly airy with just enough crust to satisfy, complemented beautifully by the rich, mellow roasted garlic. The Tuscan meatballs were a standout starter. Nestled in a bright, tangy pomodoro sauce and paired with creamy burrata and crisp fried basil, each bite was a harmony of texture and flavor. A classic dish elevated by thoughtful execution. For the main course, the pan-seared diver scallops stole the show. Perfectly caramelized on the outside and tender within, they were accompanied by roasted cauliflower, earthy lentils, and a silky beurre blanc that tied it all together. Every element on the plate felt deliberate, balanced, and satisfying. Though the dessert menu tempted me, I opted for a classic cappuccino and their house-made biscotti. The biscotti’s crisp texture and delicate sweetness paired wonderfully with the frothy, rich coffee—an understated but delightful finish. This was an unexpected find, chosen last-minute via OpenTable, and it exceeded expectations. Tuskan Brands is a brand I’ve come to trust, having visited other locations in their portfolio over the years, and this experience was no exception—polished, warm, and impeccably executed. Special thanks to Tara, my server, whose attentiveness made the evening even better. Exactly what I was hoping for, and more. Tuscan Kitchen- Portsmouth, New Hampshire- 10/23/2017 This is the third of what will soon be four restaurants known as Tuscan Brands. Burlington, Massachusetts, Salem, New Hampshire and coming soon to the harbor in Boston, Massachusetts… Their customer service is exemplary in all locations and they have their own market adjoining the restaurants. It’s something you really need to experience. First out the Crostini with white bean purée topped with roasted tomatoes. Literally fresh out of the oven. Second this evening, a half order of lobster ravioli… Local Hampton Harbor Lobster, rock shrimp scampi sugo, crushed red pepper. This is probably one of their best dishes. I’ve had it at all of their locations and have always been happy… Third out of the kitchen, the Saltimbocca… Pork tenderloin, prosciutto, pickled ramps, mascarpone whipped potatoes with cherry mostrada… Preoared a perfect warm pink center and as pleasing to the eyes as it was to the palate. The prosciutto wraps the pork like a familiar security blanket and oh the flavour! It was delicious. And to round out this fabulous dinner, a perfectly prepared cappuccino… Large cup, perfect head with a light dusting of cinnamon. I’ve never had a bad meal at Tuscan… Always great food and customer service. When you come to this location ask for Lori and tell her Paul sent you. Bring the family or come on date night…

Tuscan Kitchen in Portsmouth, NH is one of a kind. I will describe my experience in a descriptive and informative way to anyone who is interested in visiting Tuscan Kitchen. First of all I ordered the Polpettoni to start. The meatball was just cooked perfectly. I could taste all the meats in each bite, which I liked b/c I never had a balanced meatball before. The marinara sauce had a nice bold flavor to it. I alsoo liked that it was also tangy, unlike other sauces. The creamy burricotta really went nice with the meatball and the sauce. Now for my main course I ordered Veal Tortelloni. The Veal in the Tortelloni was creamy and savory. A real blast of flavor with the sauce and the veal together. I would highly recommend ordering the Veal Tortelloni b/c of all the interesting flavors it has. I never had experienced this before. For dessert I ordered the Salted Caramel Gelato. The presentation was stunning. They salt around the edges really looked nice. The Gelato was creamy and rich. Definitely recommend dessert. However, I was not happy with the service. It took around 40 minutes for our apps to get to our table. Busy night, but still not happy. 40 minutes is just too long! Overall, I'm giving Tuscan Kitchen a 4 star review. Great food, but not happy with service. However, you should definitely come to experience this cooking. Also, I cant wait for the market!

The atmosphere of the restaurant was interesting and I say that in 2 ways. 1. There’s a sports bar area with TVs around the bar, and staff in checkered shirts, jeans, and sneakers. It isn’t exactly the atmosphere that I was picturing for a place with such expensive courses, and a la cart style sides for the steaks/more expensive entrées. 2. It’s in the old Bank in downtown Portsmouth. The building itself is really cool, and historic. Vaulted ceilings, beautiful murals. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and provided great service. Really did an excellent job as she was attentive, and helpful with any questions about the menu. I had the fillet ($48) cooked medium with herb roasted potatoes ($8), and my wife had the scallops ($36) and subbed out the spiced farro for spinach risotto. If you get the scallops definitely make that substitution, or if the chefs/owners are reading this, make it a permanent change!! So delicious. Scallops cooked perfectly and the creamy spinach risotto really was a beautiful combination. The fillet was good as well, I don’t think it was $48 worth of good. The char was nice, and it was cooked exactly as requested. The homemade steak sauce it came with was tasty as well; seemed to me a mix of tangy A1 and slightly spicy BBQ sauce. The potatoes were cooked perfect, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not overpowering with the herb seasoning either. Long story short, very overpriced but an enjoyable meal.

I like the new 🆕 location and I appreciate that they are maintaining the old New Hampshire National Bank 🏦. The inside looks great 👍! There is a bar 🍻 and you have a full view of the kitchen. According to an online haunted tour of Portsmouth, it's supposed to be "BOO!", Aaagh!, ..... haunted. Service was very good 👍! I had three servers and they all asked if I was enjoying my meal and dessert. I was able to relax and the WiFi was easy to access. My only issue was the food. The price to quantity ratio wasn't good. I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli and I was disappointed that half the plate 🍽️ was empty. The ravioli was okay but a bit bland. The complimentary bread with olive 🫒 oil for dipping was good. My dessert, 10 Layer Chocolate Zabaglione Cake was okay. Where was the mousse that was supposed to come with it? Coffee ☕ tasted good but was overpriced. I understand inflation is driving up prices, but, the Tuscan restaurant franchise has a problem with pricing in all of their restaurants. Update: August, 2023; I sat at the bar and tried the Roasted Chicken 🍗 with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Tiramisu for dessert. Very good! Service was slow but I was treated very well. Extra ⭐. Update: August 2024; Beet Salad 🥗, Shaved Onion 🧅 and Brulee d Cheesecake were good! This restaurant was very busy when I left. If you have a large group, I recommend a reservation.

Where do I begin? We really did not enjoy our food here. This is a chophouse, so you would think their meats are superb. It’s not. I ordered the rib eye medium rare, but it came to me blue and rubbery. So right off the bat you can tell that the meat wasn’t premium, not even a decent piece. It was so chewy, it left a lot of ligament between my teeth for the rest of the night. It was seasoned right though. We also ordered a pork chop and how it sounded on the menu sounded delicious. Nowhere on that menu did it say the pork chop was going to be breaded. Not everyone likes their meats breaded. I’m one of them. It was also very salty. We ordered a pan seared salmon medium, but it came to us rare and it was barely warm! At least this one had a lot of vegetables underneath. The salmon was seasoned well. None of the entrees were worth the money, especially not when they were cooked properly. We got a slice of the 10 layer chocolate cake mousse and ganache. It was VERY bad. From the first bite you can taste the rancid oil from the cake! How do you bake a cake knowing that the oil is rancid?!! The food at this place was absolutely horrible. Our waiter was very nice, but it isn’t enough to give it an extra star. We paid good money and expected the food to be enjoyable, but received nothing but inedible dishes.

Oh man, where do I begin. The restaurant is beautiful, the waitstaff was lovely and the atmosphere was great. We started with an appetizer and bread - delicious. We were a bit shocked at the prices of the steaks, but we saw the menu ahead of time so we knew what we were getting into. We ordered two filets, a couple of sides and enjoyed some espresso martinis. The steaks came out and to say they were charred is an understatement. Yeah sure, the inside was cooked perfectly medium as ordered, but we had to cut through some seriously charred beef to get there. My husband and I just kind of looked at each other wondering if we missed something. We are average people, we splash out on a nice meal on birthdays and anniversaries a few times a year, but a starter, two charred steaks, a few sides and 2 martinis each, a shared dessert and after tip we hit over $300. Our most expensive meal ever in 12 years together and the steaks were SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. Eventually we got to the point where we had to cut the burned parts off just to finish the steaks. We will not be returning. And I felt bad not fully tipping 20%, I always do, but man, that waiter saw those burned steaks. He brought them out to us and he took the plates away seeing the pieces we had to cut off.
