First, props to a brewery that has the ambition to open in the backyard of the America's oldest brewery.

Black Rock Brewery "shares" its space with a SpringGate Winery tasting/sales room. If you come in the front door on your left is the brewery and the right is the winery tasting/sales room. Both are in a cool building built in 1893 was the previous Sheafer Building (Peter W. Sheafer a engineer, geologist, coal baron), YWCA and also later the YMCA.

They had a nice selection of lighter beers (maybe "too" light). The sole dark beer selection was a very good coffee stout, it having the highest ABV at 6.6%. Imperial beer drinkers stay home. :)

In addition they had nonalcoholic root beer which we didn't try and a short cocktail list.

The beers: IPAs very classic with good hops Caged probably had about a 30 IBU level and Breaker 50. The rest of the beers were VERY light with of course their low calorie Latern light leading the way. The food was above regular pub food with a good selection.

Saved the best for last. Part of your experience is watching your beers being "poured" they have a "magnet system" which fills the special glasses from the bottom up for a good pour every time. I posted a video.

Great old building, average...

Came in the afternoon after the Yuengling 5k. We went up to the bar got drinks in no time. We ordered fries at the same time. The bartender taking our order said nothing about the wait time. After 30 min, we asked a waitress walking by how much longer. She refused to find out just saying “the kitchen is slow today. It’ll be out eventually”. At the 45 min mark, we asked another waitress walking by, she said she would check. We watched her walk by several times after that ignoring us (we were at the table next to the popcorn machine no staff member would be able to miss our table or the number for our order) after 60 min we got fed up and left. One order of French fries cannot be justified with such a long wait or blatant lack of caring from the staff. We understand the town had a big event which =more customers. But if the kitchen can’t even get fries out. They should have shut it down for a couple hours and reset themselves or a courtesy warn customers before ordering. The bartenders were able to keep drinks going for our group which is the only reason I’ll...

A group of 4 of us arrived right after they opened. It was all our first time here and you have to order from your phone. No options to add ketchup with the fries or even a glass of water. Our food came out one person at a time over the course of an hour!! Absolutely ridiculous! The first person was finished her meal before the rest of us got ours. People that came well after us were getting their food. The “waitress” said it was a busy time. I beg to differ. They all came after us. Maybe they need to remove some items from their menu and stick to the basics if they don’t have the kitchen and staff to make all the items in a timely manner. The “waitress” doesn’t check in you to see if you need anything or how the meal was. The root beer slushy was the worst we ever had. Thank god she accidentally brought us regular root beer the first time so we could dilute it to make it drinkable. Prices were high for what you get. On a positive note the “waitress” did have a smile on her face the whole evening. Not sure we will...

Small, tucked-away brewery with a semi-creepy, but in a cool way, historic vibe. Located in a gritty mining town that seems to be all about Yuengling (since it is the home of Yuengling), it's great to have Black Rock as a real craft alternative. The beers were respectable and the menu, though small, had some creative options. The beer 'pouring' method is unique. They fill the glass from the bottom by displacing a magnetic token located at the bottom of each glass. Innovative for sure, but occasionally a bit leaky. Will definitely seek this place out if I'm ever in the area again.

With a great selection of beer & wine options and now cocktails made in house, there is something for everyone! Great brew pub food menu with new themed food & beverages every weekend. Many fun events throughout the week including live entertainment on Friday & Saturday night. Great addition to town ❤️
