To say Luna’s restaurant is fairly new, I think they are doing a great job with some good Filipino food. Being Filipino myself, it’s only natural to want to compare it to the food I had growing up, cooked by Lola herself, and now present day cooking it myself. So with that being said here we go.
The pancit, huli chicken, and the basmati rice are the highlights. The taste and seasoning of the chicken adobo was great, I am just not a fan of large bone-in legs. They were ginormous. The pickled veggie alongside the adobo was a nice garnish, just like my mom makes. I’m feeling a little indifferent about the lumpia nachos; they’re definitely a unique concept. I think the inside filling of lumpia combined with cheese threw me off a little bit, but it was fun to try. The actual tortilla chips were fresh and crunchy. The pork lumpia were ok. The vinegar dipping sauce was amazing. Like I said, it’s hard to compare other lumpia to my own. I think they were a little on the small side (close to Shanghai lumpia) given the cost. The panko spam musubi definitely has potential; unfortunately it fell apart while eating (one bite and it broke loose…the rice wasn’t sticky). Overall I think they are doing a great job considering they just opened. I would highly recommend it, especially if you are non-Filipino and want to try eating more Filipino food. The serving size on the plates of food are worthy. The dessert looks amazing, but I’ll have to try it next time. We left...

This place is bomb! It's located in a quiet little mall in Poway and wow the food is great. Sure, this is not the place I would stop by when I'm on a juice cleanse, but man, the food here makes my taste buds sing!
This is a Filipino fusion place. Think Filipino food, then put on crazy creativity hat and bam!, you get Luna's Lunpias. Even "innocent"-sounding dishes like sinigang or adobo had a subtle spin of Luna's Lunpias' touch, which totally delighted us and made them just as delicious.
I got the nachos. If you're thinking "haa it's probably just gonna have different protein". Nope! You're wrong! This is not your ordinary nachos; they fry their own chips (so good and crisp), has sweet chili sauce and garlic and the meat is lumpia filling and if you're a spam lover like I am, go and add that panko-fried spam, it would be the best decision of your day.
Not only were our food amazing, the service that we got was also top-notch. You order at the counter and the person there is nice and friendly. The chef (perhaps the owner?) came out a couple of times to tell us more about our dishes and what he did to give the dishes a different edge from how it's traditionally made. I love learning more about what I'm eating, it makes the eating experience so much richer and personal.
I really had a great lunch at this place. It's rather far for me, but I hope when I come back, my experience will be...
Read moreThis was our first visit to this restaurant. We had just left the stables and decided to swing by and order some take-out dishes. Tonight, we tried their Huli Huli Chicken plate, Pork Lunpias, Pancit, Garlic Bastami Fried Rice, and Ube Blossom Cookies.
I was raised dining on Filipino foods and have been blessed with delicious home-cooked meals prepared by my mom, who learned to cook exquisite and elaborate dishes at her family's restaurant as a little girl...so I'd like to believe that I have a discerning palate. Having learned that there was a new Filipino restaurant in Poway, I just had to give them a try. Well...you most definitely will not be disappointed! The dishes we selected this evening at Luna's Lunpias were so refreshingly great, and with a 'savory twist,' as described by the chefs/owners. They not only have put a lot of time in putting their unique stamp of flavor into their dishes; they also ensure that each dish is prepared and served with a sensational visual appeal.
We will be returning soon to sample our way through their entire menu, and encourage all of you to expand your culinary palate and visit Luna's Filipino...
