Sally B’s exemplifies the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover.” This diner’s major sign on the strip mall’s header only says, “Restaurant.” You won’t know it’s Sally B’s until you drive close enough to see the door. The restaurant is in the same shopping center as Safeway and the Family Dollar/Dollar Tree. Despite unassuming exteriors, expect friendly staff and great tasting comfort food.
I discovered something interesting I liked: The restaurant decorates its tabletops with old Sears catalog pages dotted with local ads. Despite its unpretentious nature, the furniture looks well-maintained. The restaurant is proud of its 5-year Golden Plate Award from Yavapai County Community Health Services. They should be proud because this designation is not trivial! We found this local gem while searching for the best local restaurants in the area. It is rated as one of the top one or two restaurants in the area.
My wife and I visited Sally B’s twice as of this writing, and we are new residents in the area. Our server, Ray Pope, served us both times. He is a warm, kind, and friendly server, that guaranteed our return to the business. On our first visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy, one of the husband and wife owners, and also a delight to meet.
While this place may cater to locals, visitors to the area wouldn’t want to miss a tasty, hearty meal at Sally B’s. The menu is huge. So, there is something for everyone.
I tried the Friday Fish Fry on my first visit. The cod fish used a heavy thick batter, which was heavy for my liking, but the shrimp was excellent. They offered three sides besides the fish! The offering was so large; I wound up taking the fries and some of the onion rings home for a late-night snack. On our first visit, my wife ordered their Southwest Brisket Skillet, claiming it was almost as moist as the brisket I make. Which is quite a compliment. For breakfast this morning, I tried their Chorizo Omelet. The omelet came with hash browns and sourdough toast. Despite its size and deliciousness, I managed to finish the meal. I WILL order this again. The chorizo had a nice kick to it. If anyone leaves Sally B’s hungry, it’s their own fault.
Sally offers gluten-free bread, one which they will make any sandwich. This is a big plus for my wife who must each gluten-free.
Parking is plentiful as the restaurant is in the same shopping center as Safeway. Wheelchair accessibility is easy as there’s adequate space between tables.

Read moreWe went to Sally B's on Christmas Eve to try their Christmas dinner specials. I had the Prime Rib dinner and my wife had the Turkey dinner. This was the first time we had been there, and we were hoping for a good, home cooked meal. It started out well with our salads, and they were good. Our dinners arrived and it was all downhill from there. My prime rib was covered with a very salty gravy. I come from the Midwest, and I've never seen gravy on prime rib in my life. My first bite told me this had been made a day or days ago. Absolutely no beef taste, overcooked and dry, with a strange taste. They covered it with gravy to try making it edible.. It was the worst prime rib I've eaten in my life. If I had closed my eyes I would have thought it was roadkill instead of beef. One small dollop of mashed potatoes, that were probably instant mashed potatoes out of a box. The gravy was also out of a can with no taste except for the massive amount of salt. The dinner roll looked soft, but it was excessively microwaved so it was so chewy you could barely eat it. My wife's turkey dinner was also awful. Thinly sliced, dry and tasteless turkey. It certainly didn't taste like freshly cooked turkey and it also had a strange taste. It also had the same instant mashed potatoes with canned turkey gravy. The only edible thing on her plate was the candied sweet potatoes, which were good. These were truly the worst meals we can remember having and we certainly won't be back. Sally B's staff must not eat their own cooking, otherwise they wouldn't serve this poor imitation of...
Read moreIt's not a bad place to eat. It's clean and friendly enough. I went on a Friday for the all-you-can-eat fish platter. It was actually pretty good at about 17ish dollars. But my server came back one only one time after bringing our food. At that moment when she asked if I'd like more fish, I wasn't ready for more fish. She never came back except to drop off the check, and I only got to eat the one serving of fish. I 😅 was a bit disappointed by it, but oh well, I guess. I still would recommend it, and I'll go back someday. I just really would have liked seconds. Atmosphere? Well, it's just a simple cafe. White walls with minimal decor, roomy tables, and booths are a bit dated but clean. It's comfortable. The staff is friendly enough, but you will have to ask for what you need or want. It's a good...
