I am so grateful that SC House is in Princeton!!! I've been just twice now, and both times I have left SO happy. The surrounding Chinese restaurants are ok and satisfy my craving for more American Chinese dishes, but I always felt like Princeton was missing a standout Chinese restaurant, especially when I'm missing my family extra hard. I'm vegan, so it's also difficult to find authentic Chinese restaurants that are accommodating of my diet. BOY has SC House filled that hole in my heart!!! They have an amazing Szechuan menu and an incredibly solid selection of dishes that were either vegan or could be made vegan. There was also absolutely ZERO compromise made on the flavor - some restaurants will simply take out ingredients to make a dish vegan and call it a day, but not here - every dish was incredibly flavorful and masterfully executed. We had the scallion pancakes (better than my both my grandmas' and I will order this every time), cold noodle (refreshing with a serious mala kick - the most fragrant dish I tried), mapo tofu (the best I've ever had and also way better than my grandmas' - I've had mapo tofu with meat before and it's not even close), and the eggplant (best eggplant I have ever had - fish fragrant and cooked perfectly). We had dinner here with a non-vegan friend and he said everything was some of the literal best he's ever had. The wait staff is also amazing - your water glass will never be empty for long and they are attentive and warm. Go to SC...
Read moreA delicious sit down restaurant that was very accommodating for my allergies! I'm extremely allergic to sesame seeds, and often Chinese places (justifiably) say they can't serve me because of the risk of cross-contamination and the ubiquity of the ingredient. I've become used to just ordering egg drop soup and white rice when my friends want to eat at a Chinese place. However, SC House is different! They said I could order any menu item and it could be made sesame-free; when my wonderfully fresh beef and tofu pudding dish came out just a few minutes after we ordered it (the service is also great!) I had a moment of fear because I'd never been able to eat a dish that looked like it- doused in savory chili oil and a rich brown sauce- but it was completely safe and utterly delicious! Because of my dietary restrictions I'd never even had mala spice before, but now I can't wait to repeat the experience and try the other things on the menu!
The ambiance on a weekend afternoon was lively but family-friendly, with music in Mandarin playing at a moderate volume and a variety of couples and families eating in the dining room. It appears to be a BYOB...
Read moreThis restaurant was very cute. It's smaller and a little bit warn but still a great place to eat. If you eat traditional Asian cuisine, then this is the place for you. If you're more into Asian-American dishes (general stos, sesame chicken, etc), then you may want to journey elsewhere. The Asian-American food is good, but not great. I ordered general sTo's. I can't help but to feel like I was eating pre-cooked chicken. It just tasted a little bit old. Like it had either been cooked before and refried, or had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. The flavor was great! But the chicken itself just didn't seem fresh. The service was great and food came out VERY quickly (we got there around 5pm). Everyone in the restaurant looked very pleased and seemed to enjoy their meal. We probably won't return as we are more into Asian-American style food. But if you love traditional Asian cuisine, this is definitely the place...
