Rong Chic蓉记 — Restaurant in Providence

It's tough to find good Chinese restaurants, so it was a pleasure to try the relatively new Rong Chic, which specializes in Sichuan cooking. If you like spicy, this place is nirvana. Five of us who love Chinese but are not so crazy about spicy carefully threaded our way through the menu for our first visit. Everything we had was excellent: scallions pancakes nice and crispy, orange chicken delightful with orange peel, and noodles with beef with terrific noodles. The tofu cheesecake sounds weird but was creamy and delicious. We listened to our server who was worried about us ordering things we'd find too spicy, but on our next visit we will dip into the spicy stuff, including the whole grilled fish which looked fabulous at several tables around us. Warning: the second you walk into this place, incredible aromas will enter your nose. After that, you’ll sit down at a table with a really cool water pitcher and incredibly chic menus. When you open the menu, you’ll be equal parts intrigued and excited about the tantalizing offers. Everything my party ordered was fantastic and super fresh, but the standout was the pickled fish. I just had one of those “there’s a reason this is on the menu” feelings and everyone was blown away. I ordered a soy milk. On the menu, the price was $4.00 (I’m pretty sure because $4.00 is already expensive but I can kind of accept that). But on the check it’s $5.00. When I asked for the menu for double check, they gave me a menu with the price of $5.00. It’s definitely another menu since the backside of the page is different from the previous one.
