The Wild Colonial is the kind of place you can sneak in at 7:30 on a Tuesday night for a scotch and a pint and a quiet conversation, and by 8 it's jam packed. The tavern balances a nice old world feel with a clean modern attitude very well, and has an excellent selection of whiskies and an ok selection of regional beers. Prices are more or less what you'd expect. The open rustic colonial feel of the place is almost a surprise considering how unassuming the hole in the wall doorway looks. The location is very convenient to downtown, so there's no reason to think about a car. I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in Providence.

Historic tavern located right on the Providence River, on the east side of the pedestrian bridge. The building itself is very cool, it’s pretty roomy and the old style brick walls will make you feel like you drinking in a true colonial tavern. I enjoyed the beer list and they were all reasonable priced. They have a pool table, two dart boards, a couple TVs, and someone even came in with a chess set, so plenty of stuff to do. I was able to get in with my Colorado ID without an issue. It’s also close to downtown, so easy to find other places if you’re bar hopping or just aren’t feeling the vibe.

The Wild Colonial is a traditional Irish Pub in Providence on South Water Street. There are several local beers on top, and the bartenders really know how to make a great cocktail. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is fun. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Stone and brick walls on the inside give it an authentic Irish Pub feel. There's plenty of parking. The food is great too I highly recommend the nachos.

TL;DR: The atmosphere is still great, but the service has taken a serious turn for the worse. The new bartender was incredibly rude. Sadly, I now understand the negative reviews. I recommend skipping this place.

I’ve been a loyal patron of The Wild Colonial since 2021. It’s been my favorite bar in Providence. I bring every friend who visits to this spot. The drinks are solid, the crowd is fun, and most of the bartenders over the years have been great.

However, my most recent experience completely changed how I feel about the place. I was overcharged for a $7 drink. This is not something I would normally make a big deal out of, but when I politely brought it up, the bartender immediately became aggressive. He yelled at me, called me a liar, and kicked me out of the bar. He even said, ā€œyou always do this,ā€ which is completely false and baffling, especially since I’ve been coming here for years without a single issue, long before he ever started working there.

I asked if he could check the CCTV footage to clear things up, but he refused and insisted he was right, doubling down on the accusation.

After this happened, I went back to look at the reviews and saw that several others have mentioned similar problems with rude service. I used to dismiss those comments because I’d only had positive experiences, but now, I unfortunately understand where they’re coming from.

It’s really disappointing to see a place I’ve loved for so long change like this. I hope management addresses these concerns, but until then, unless you want to get kicked out of the bar for no reason, I can’t recommend a visit to The...

Still asking for vax cards, mandates are gone and the bar tender still thinks they have special privliges. I'm vaccinated for the record, but I don't think the college kid pouring me drinks has a right to look into that. In fact if you want to be looking into people's medical records open a doctor's office. It's uncomfortable 😣 and I'm not sure what purpose it serves, I'm pretty sure you can't refuse to serve people that aren't vaccinated. All they can do is ask them to wear a mask. But you can't drink beer with a mask on which means they're going to walk away and immediately take the mask off to drink..... So it's an uncomfortable and pointless policy that immediately makes you feel like you don't want to be there the second you walk in the door. There's no way around it that's negative 10 points for service and they pour the same beer everywhere. One star. Change your silly policy you can go...

The bar tender threatened to fight me outside last night because of her personal COVID politics. I've never been so afraid and offended by an employee. I've been going here for years but not anymore. My friend and I walked in, sat down and tried to order one beer and was refused. She asked for my our vaccine cards. I only had mine on me. Before we could leave peacefully she screamed at me in front of the whole bar because I said "you can still get covid after being vaccinated". She freaked out and yelled at me. She seemed mentally unstable or drunk. I am vaccinated and showed her my vaccinecard. It wasn't enough. She wanted to fight me outside. I'm disgusted. I would of just left if we need a vaccine proof that's fine but being screamed at and threatened is NOT OKAY. She was short tan skin curly dark hair...
