First of all, the electrical outlets attached to the wall-mounted lights were loose, meaning anything plugged into them wobbled, making it so the connection did not hold. This concerned me as I use a CPAP machine at night. Luckily, I was able to move the bedside table, unplug the alarm clock and use that socket.
Secondly, I went outside to get something out of my car at 2:00 am and neither of the elevators were in order. Both doors were open on the first floor, and unable to be called from any other floor. What if we had come in at that hour from a red-eye flight with a good amount of luggage? Would we have had to lug it all up the stairs? Not to mention, my husband is disabled, using a cane, and stairs can be difficult. I was glad I was the one who went out to the car, otherwise he would have come back none too happy.
Third, the sofa bed was cheap; it was thin and lumpy, and just big enough for my ten-year-old son.
Fourth, you have to pay extra to park in the hotel’s lot.
Lastly, we had a room which faced the intersection and it was extremely loud without any seemingly effective method of insulating the noise from the room. At one point, we heard sirens and upon looking outside the window saw two fire trucks parked right below us, which although would’ve been interesting to my ten-year-old to see, was in the middle of the night and very loud. I realize that the hotel can do nothing about fire trucks parking outside it window, or people honking in traffic, but it is clear to me the hotel could use some updating.
The shining star of our trip is the staff. I could not have wished for nicer people. A small part of my CPAP machine malfunctioned (around 11:00 PM), and the only fix I know of is to wrap medical tape around the area in order to keep the seal. Not being something I keep with me, I went down to the front desk to ask for some. The receptionist was an extremely kind woman who looked in three different places including two first-aid kits, neither of which had medical tape. Then, as she was looking up local pharmacies for me, a man from maintenance came into the lobby. She then asked him if he had any medical tape. He happily hopped into the elevator to his office, and came back with several options, neither of which was medical tape, but one came close. I ended up trying one of the options he offered me, and it worked. Had I not been able to fix the machine, nobody in my room would have gotten a good...
Read moreCentrally located in Providence, the Courtyard is in a small plaza near some shops and across from the park and mall. Easy enough to get to (once you manage the disaster of a highway that is 95/195) and has an attached parking garage and some uncovered gated parking outside the lobby. Parking garage is on the opposite street from the main entrance, but has an elevator that brings you up to the lobby. You have to take another elevator up to the rooms just past the lobby. Parking is $30/night and a key card is used to get in that doubles as a hotel key card. The machine/card was not working to lift the gates on our way out. Luckily, there was a worker trying to fix it at the time and he kindly helped us get out.
Guest services were nice, but the manager was chit-chatting with another worker while he let a junior worker check us in. Made it confusing while checking in.
Was easy enough to get into the room and the room had standard amenities. Good AC, mini fridge, easy access for outlets bedside and near the TV stand, bed was comfortable, had a nice deep couch that would fit 2 easily or allow for one shorter person to put their legs up but not lay down fully, and a nice desk with pull out tray for working.
The place was very clean also. The walls felt cheaply done though and could hear through them. They used cheap/outdated wallpaper so felt like a cheaper motel. The bathroom door and floor tile also had an old, commercial style. The bathroom as a whole had paint chips, there was a crack in the shower tile, the shower head’s escutcheon was not adhered properly exposing a hole in the wall. There was also plumbers tape hanging from the shower head connection.
Overall, this place is only a step above a motel and serves as a clean and convenient place to stay in Providence. You are paying for the location. I spent $450 (with taxes+fees) for one night and only did because we were in town for a wedding. I believe this price was inflated because it was a graduation weekend for several colleges in Providence. I wouldn’t pay more than $200 to stay at this hotel again. Disappointing to have the name Marriott associated with...
Read moreI was in town to see my daughter's senior show at RISD and take a couple of meetings. I walked into the hotel lobby about 10 pm, and my husband had just called me so I was lugging my brief case in lieu of a purse and was on the phone. The attendant took one look at me and offered me a bottle of ice-cold water out of the blue! I don't know if that's common practice, but it was much appreciated and awesome! The next morning, I was in a tizzy because I left my room keys in the room, had no change to tip the housekeeper, was late for a meeting, and my ticket for the parking garage was in the key envelope IN MY ROOM. The morning attendants took such good care of me and got me quickly on my way. I made sure to come back in the afternoon and thank them before I left town.
I also told them how much I loved my room, which was at the end of the hall, because it had windows on two sides and could see so much of the city. I told them I was going to tell my husband to ask for the same room when he came later that week for the last day of my daughter's show. They asked which room I was in.
"701," I said. "701?" They both looked at each other with trepidation. I thought they were going to say something like, "That’s the haunted room." or something equally scary.
But instead, they told me that there was construction going on right outside the building and people had been complaining about the noise. I said, "Oh, I was watching them work, but I never heard a thing! I slept like a log." In any case, I was there less than 12 hours, but it was a great stay--super comfortable, quiet, and with a very friendly staff!
The hotel has great customer service, is right in the center of the business district, and is walking distance to the Providence Mall and lots of great restaurants and bars, as well as to RISD and...
