We’ve gone to the Continental several times thru several stages. The soft opening, Valentine’s Day , Brunch, cocktails at the Bar. Everytime we’ve gone it has been incredible and memorable. Here are a few/many words from my experiences posted on social media
“The Continental is in Downtown Provo. The interior is exciting, the service great, and the food is amazing. Contemporary Native Cuisine for the win!” Drinks and dishes tried: #AppleGingerSoda Apple, ginger, lemon, agave, soda. and a #HuckleberryFizz huckleberries, lemon, basil, soda. Both were very tasty. Appetizers #HoneyFrites hand cut potatoes, red pepper and #ShishitoPeppers spiced blue corn dust, candied pipitas, lime. They weren’t very spicy but had great flavor. Mains #ArizonaHotChicken hot tepin honey and maple, pickles, and blue cornbread. Cooked to perfection the leg and thigh had amazing, crispy, juicy skin and succulent, flavorful flesh. the accompanying pickles were delightfully tasty and a bit spicy. We also ordered the very exciting and unique #RabbitTamal the tamale had just the right amount of masa to rabbit filling ratio. It was very moist. The tamal had a gorgeous salsa verde sauce on top with pickled onions. When you have a rabbit dish, carrots are a natural accompaniment and they were amazing, Some of the best carrots I’ve ever had. They were sweet and cooked to perfection. Dessert #vanillaMousse over beautiful cherries and topped generously with zested lime. The Crystal glass really presented the sexy dish in all its glory.
“F-ing amazing meal with my Valentine.” Drinks #CabernetSauvignon from #LapisLunaWine it paired well with all 4 courses. Food: a yummy #DandelionSalad arugula, strawberry, red onion, feta, vinaigrette. The most amazing Smoked #TomatoBisque with crema, and chives. I could take a bath in the bisque and be happy. #DuckConfitTamal and a #WildMushroomTamal Both included the same sauce of black mole, xnipec, pepitas, coriander but they tasted different because of the sweet luscious duck and the contrasting wonderful umami of the wild mushrooms. For mains the medium rare Ute Mountain #BisonRibeye with green chile chimichuri, pomme puree, and grilled vegetables. the Chef went and picked up the bison from the Ute tribe earlier in the week. The meat was succulent and cooked perfectly. the sides and #chimichuri sauce complimented the meat deliciously. Bison is leaner than beef with a more meaty taste. Desserts: Mesquite Flour #ChocolateCake that was sexy and flavorful and the Navajo Tea #PannaCotta that was luscious and creamy.
“Amazing Brunch!” boozy #Mimosas with #OrangeJuice later we enjoyed #Mango and #Peach Mimosa. For food the scrumptious Cookie Butter Stuffed #FrenchToast Featuring cookie butter, marscapone, whipped cream, candied pecans, and fresh berries. We ordered a side of the best extra thick bacon. the #bacon is locally sourced and cooked gorgeously. It’s Almost like a thin bacon steak. Mum ordered the #BasicB which included 2 eggs over easy, bacon, country potatoes, and sourdough toast. She also ordered a side of fruit to enjoy. I gorged on the beautiful #Chilaquiles made with blue corn chips, salsa roja, crema, queso fresco, onion, radish, 2 elegant sunnyside eggs, and cilantro. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Everything we had was cooked with great skill and care. The service was aware and thoughtful. Everytime we eat at The Continental we leave satiated but wanting to return again and again. Best #brunch around!”
Enough said. I could go on and on, However, Just go and enjoy The Continental my...
Read moreI am fortunate to have eaten at some of the top restaurants in the world in illustrious cities like New York and Paris, and I can both subjectively and objectively say that this beautiful restaurant in the tiny city of Provo, Utah is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. While in Salt Lake City for the Kilby music festival we decided to take the hour long train ride down to Provo for an evening date at the Continental, and the experience was worth every second of that train ride. Personally, I would travel to Utah for the opportunity to eat at this restaurant alone, it was that good. The decor and ambience are elegant and impeccable, from the tastefully curated music, to the modern chic decor, down to the gold metal stirrers in our perfectly crafted cocktails. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, and knew just when to appear to make sure we had everything we needed and when to give us time to enjoy each others company. Every dish we tried was an ecstatic mix of elegant presentation and delicious flavors. The owner of the restaurant stopped by our table to check on us and explained how the menu is a celebration of her Native American heritage and her many years of expertise in the restaurant industry. She talked about how hard she works to source local and sustainable ingredients, from wild harvested local mushrooms to freshly caught trout from a nearby lake. I can't think of many places you can go to get a five star Native American meal like this. If you are anywhere near Provo do not miss out on the opportunity to dine at the...
Read moreWe reserved a table at The Continental for a family birthday based on the many positive reviews it has received. However, our experience was nothing close to the reviews I read. We ordered two small plates as starters, two large plates and three small plates for our entrees for four people. Overall, the menu is very limited.
The Arizona chicken, while having a delicious flavor, was WAY overcooked (and I like my food well-toasted/seared/crusted) but the burned flavor took over the entire dish. The slaw that came with it was delish, but the cornbread was terrible. The bison meatballs ordered were also overcooked. The guac with beets were fantastic, and the bacon-wrapped dates had a delicious sauce, but were overcooked and tough.
The prices were very high for the food quality and quantity. The service was midland at best (though the personal birthday note on arrival was a nice touch). Normally, I am happy to pay a premium for food in the culinary space that this restaurant is trying to achieve, however, with the very few wins on the acceptable scale, our entire group concluded that the overcooked food, meager portions and the high prices had us rating the restaurant a 4/10 at best.
Additionally, the space is so loud that we were having to lean close over the table all night long and shout to each other just to be heard.
Needless to say, we will...
