I went to Red Bento with my wife for lunch. I was originally thinking about some nice spicy noodle dish but when I saw that they had Pho, I ordered it. I am from Portland and down there they have Pho Oregon and Pho An. Two great places that if you are a round eye, you are usually in the minority. Red Bento didn't have a special or a #1 or Pho Dac Biet with everything, so I ordered their beef. The beef was previously cooked and sliced about 1/8" thick - very different from the paper thin sliced raw sirloin that is cooked in your bowl by the temperature of the broth. The beef tasted old, too. My Wife had a chicken pho. She liked it, but she isn't a Pho freak like me. I saw other dishes coming out of the kitchen that looked interesting. It was clean and had nice atmosphere for the most part. The drink menu on the table had not been wiped and was sticky with food or beer. Staff was very attentive and curious how we liked their food. We're going back, but not for pho. The star rating I posted is just for the Pho. It is very rare that a Pho house doesn't have a Pho Dac Biet. That is usually the jewel of their menu. It's one way to tell how serious they are about Pho or if it is just...
Read moreEaten here twice, Had the Bulgogi the first time, the beef was cut way too thinly and didn't have enough of the KBBQ marinade on it, I finished the meal satisfied but wouldn't order it again. The 2nd time I had the chicken katsu bento with a sashimi platter. The bento came with teriyaki chicken which was above average, the katsu was more breading then chicken and the orange sauce I will for now own ask on the side as the food came drenched in the sauce making the chicken soggy and I want some crisp. With that said I will order the bento again and it was a good value, something like $15 for that food and it came with gyoza. The sashimi platter was great, came with 6 pieces of thick raw fish, I prefer this over sushi rolls because rolls take away the delicate flavor of the fish...was not disappointed. Final verdict, I'm excited to try other dishes and see how they are and in my journey I know I will have some bust . BTW, I tried some of my friends sushi rolls and the amount of seafood they put on the rolls is so low it's almost shouldn't be considered...
Read moreI was in on Wednesday, we order three separate dishes. I had the “Thai” pho, my fiancé had the shrimp pad Thai, and my friend had the Bulgogi bento. The “pho” was very basic broth that didn’t really taste like pho at all, the noodles were not rice noodles by any means, the looked like fettuccine noodles, the meat was hard and clumped together (no I didn’t order meatballs lol). I had to drown the “pho” in sriracha just to get some flavor. The shrimp pad Thai was terrible to, the noodles weren’t anything good, and the shrimp was over cooked and dry. The sauce tasted nothing like Pad Thai at all. When I asked my friend how his bulgogi was, he said around 3-4 out of ten. All of this was quite expensive to. For just the three meals I spent over 50 dollars. I honestly would never eat here again. I’ve never asked for a refund, but this wasn’t a good experience at all. The waitress was good, the atmosphere was pleasant. But the food,...
