OK, so let’s talk about it. Granted Amedos has been on the west side of Raleigh for several years. I have been going to this restaurant since 2005 . I had everything from the calamari to the garlic bread to the drinks right down to the chicken Alfredo and one of my son. My late son‘s favorite was the spaghetti and meatball. The restaurant is a nice atmosphere. It has a warm and cozy feel if you’re looking for a great spot to watch sports to have a drink almost like that old saying let’s go where everybody knows your name. That was a type of place that I remembered Amedeos to be ! It was my late grandmother‘s favorite place to go and get her pasta from and lasagna. She always said it reminded her of New York the sauce anyway. Amedeo’s was definitely a restaurant that was my go to especially back in the day when I wasn’t making that much money, but I wanted to make sure my children had somewhere nice to go and eat. Amedos was always the restaurant to be at let’s fast forward to today. The wings are not as I remember them to be although they have a good taste to them slightly spicy, but not as spicy as I remember them being and the sauce doesn’t taste the same it kinda gives me the feel of they switched Owners so the original owner in 2005 is no longer there. I’m assuming I can tell by the way the food taste I did arrive where I normally arrive at in front of the bar area. I’ll lock my car door and because it’s not located in the safest of neighborhoods, I walk into the bar area and I asked the gentleman can I pick up my order from here he proceeds to tell me no or First he states have you paid for it I tell him no then I proceed to give him my last name, then he states no I can’t bring the order around to you, but you’ll have to go all the way over to the other door to pick up your food and pay. I ran slightly and I left out and walked around the corner now back in the day it didn’t matter where you picked up your food. It didn’t matter where you paid for your food as long as the food was being paid for a meeting. Was that type of restaurant where anyone was welcome not saying it’s like that today but when I walked in, I didn’t see a lot of people who resembled me except for one guy who was sitting down in the front by the door with the NC state shirt on looking like he was ready to leave up out of in other words, this man of color looked like he was over it! The gentleman who took my money at the other side of the media’s seem to be very welcoming very nice clean, cut smell good as well. The other gentleman that was over in the bar was already at the other side of the restaurant before I entered into the door with a slick grin he gave me an uneasy feeling as if I wasn’t welcome there. I never felt that way before about Amedos ever I’ve done several restaurant reviews for several places. This is actually my second page for reviews. I handed the very nice gentleman the $50 bill. He breaks the change and hand me my money back no normally I’m really good at leaving tips but this time I chose not to I didn’t feel welcome . Amedeos definitely did not feel like home to me anymore. I’m not sure if the neighborhood behind them make them feel as if people of color are the same way, but everyone’s not the same to me used to be family, fun drinks, and all of the above I even rented out the both in the back for my family one year after my son passed away they were very welcoming in and again it feels like the restaurant has changed Owners. The meal cost me $23.82 but average for an order of 12 wings and fries for this day and age anyway if you want to check out a media you can visit them on Western Boulevard right across the street from the Food Lion and the Taco Bell. Enjoy your Sunday that was my bill...
Read moreFirst off, it pays if you're a North Carolina State Wolfpack fan. Amedeos is in the heart of Wolfpack country, less than a mile off campus. I began going as a student athlete hungry for homestyle cooking in 1976 when Mr.D was alive. His daughter Wendy took over years later. The food has not been better than this last trip and really never changed over the years. They knew what worked and was delicious and remained true to the recipes!. It has always had the smell, taste and atmosphere of an Italian ristorante and if all you care about is yor palate, then go. You will be well fed and treated. I always sit in the wrestling team booth if available and my picture was there at one time. There are sections for every Wolfpack athletic team there ever was. They have expanded since my first visit 50 years ago but they remain what they were, a true hometown gem. Priced for students with well portioned entrees, you cannot leave less than full and happy. There is a bar for the big games as well as very comfortable booths. I will continue to take a meal there everytime I go to Raleigh and time permits. It is wheelchair accessible and that means I'll go as long as they can wheel me in. Did I mention the food was THAT good? This last trip, I had an old favorite - manicotti. My grandmother made it the best in the world and for the life of me, I dont know how they got her recipe! With sides and a drink, I paid less than twenty bucks. Don't forget to tip. The service is top notch. She checked on me often enough, I was tempted to ask her to join. Not intrusive, but always right on time. And lovely too. Treat yourself to good, genuine Italian food in a red and white heaven. Go Pack! ...
Read moreI want to take a moment and let the world know how amazing this restaurant truly is. Not just because the food is killer, but because of their excellent management and overall staff! They are very accommodating with seating a large group and even willing to work with a group when adjustments were needed. The staff is attentive and provided outstanding customer experience. I have visited this place often when attending a close by university and loved it. After I moved home, I made trips to visit friends and always made a special stop. When my sister began attending the same university, I shared my love for this restaurant. She began visiting it like I had.
Today was no exception. We celebrated my sisters official graduation and my birthday. Sadly, it was interrupted with a very exuberant group. Unfortunately, this exuberance became overwhelming to the area we were seated. After being asked to lower their voices they did not and began getting louder. Thankfully, this wonderful management and staff promptly adjusted seating in order to allow for our quiet celebration to not be interrupted by their intoxication. The members of the staff apologized for the other group's actions while continuing to provide a wonderful dining experience for my family and I. Even after a few of these group's members attempted to come over and put a damper on our evening, the staff ensured we were able to enjoy our meal in a positive and safe environment.
I can't tell you how much this meant to my family and I. Thank you again for your attentiveness and dedication to your positive atmosphere. We truly enjoyed ourselves and are already planning...
