Urban Grill & Salad — Restaurant in Rancho Cordova

I’ve been coming to Urban Grill for years and truly appreciate their healthy, flavorful food. It’s been one of my go-to spots because I love that I can get a Mediterranean style chicken plate that feels nourishing and fresh. Lately, I’ve started ordering the kids plate with a half salad half rice combo because I can’t finish the regular portion and I really don’t like wasting food, especially food I enjoy.

Today, when I came in to pick up my order, I was immediately told by the owner that they can’t do that, as in they won’t allow the half rice half salad option on the kids plate, even though I’ve ordered it that way before without issue. I calmly asked about adding an upcharge or finding another solution, and I was met with a flat “we just don’t do that.” There was no real explanation, flexibility, or attempt at understanding, just a shutdown.

To be honest, it didn’t feel like a conversation, it felt like a confrontation. I was even willing to pay more. This wasn’t about money. It was about having a meal that works for me and not throwing half of it away.

Oh boy, where do I even begin with Urban Grill and Salad? This place is so good, I'm pretty sure I could live off of their chicken and rice plate for the rest of my life. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth, but in a good way, not like when your uncle tries to make his own hot sauce. My mouth starts watering just thinking about this place!

You really can’t go wrong with anything you order, but if you wanna do it right, you will order the Chicken rice plate supreme with balsamic dressing, tzatziki sauce, and urban spicy sauce. This food is legit!

And let's talk about the hummus. My toddler eats that stuff by the spoonful like it's pudding. I don't even bother trying to feed her anything else when we come here. Who needs vegetables when you have hummus, right?

But the real star of the show here is Shadi, the owner. This guy is like a wizard of customer service. I swear he can read minds, because he always knows exactly what we want before we even order. It's like he's part of our family now. We're basically regulars at this point.

When we walked into the restaurant the aroma of delicious Mediterranean food pleased the senses. The dining room was similar to a café style area. The lighting was soft and warm. The seating of deep comfy chairs allowed for long visits with friends and family. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and helpful to diners visiting for the first time. While trying to decide what items to order they made some samples for us to try which made ordering a confident choice. We came in as two couples to visit and fill our pallets. The great experience we had up until this point paled in comparison to the savory menu choices we gladly decided upon. If we could add bonus stars for this rating we excitedly would.
