We went to Lazy Dog tonight and really wanted to like this place but wasn’t an experience we’d say “amazing” to.
Service: hostess was amazing, she sat us after a short wait. She was genuine, caring, and had our table waiting with a high chair for our son.
Server was good at first but when our food came, one salad had dressing on it (ordered on the side and she repeated it) and my burger (Mayo on side) came with no Mayo. I waited about 5 minutes for Mayo and ketchup, when it should have come with the meal. Also, the girl never told us her name (make it personal it helps) but she def wasn’t vibing like she wanted to be there.
Beer runners very nice, like they were happy to be there.
Server good to get check out fast since we had our baby son, however she never acknowledged him except that she said she knew we’d appreciate the check fast because we had a baby.
Food/drinks: very cool water is served in a community jug so you can help yourself! Trued some house beers: white beer and light lager were both good, the hazy IPA was not good, or even drinkable.
Service question: I paid for the beer even though I complained and let server know that the beer wasn’t a hazy, wasn’t opaque as a hazy is, and tasted more like a sour. She disagreed and said it’s a hazy and does not taste like a sour. What planet was she on? And with a baby sip taken, why was I charged?!
Salad: Thai salad was good but was served with dressing when ordered on the side. Was a little spicy, waited so long for her to come check on us after food was run, we just ate with the sauce. Having a baby doesn’t allow such long dinner service.. so we made due.
Burger: was cooked to temp and toppings were good. Had to wait 5 min for my side of Mayo and ketchup, so birder and fries were lukewarm by then. Burger char broil taste but not thick, not juicy. I wouldn’t recommend, can make better at home or even Wendy’s crushes this one.
If fries were hot, then they’d be amazing. You can tell. At room temp they were a step above mid.
TLDR: food was ok, service was mixed but server went from ok to argumentative and charged me for a drink I didn’t like.. we are nice and forgiving and wanted to like this place but not...
Read moreI don't know who this menu is for. Its all over the place and It's just faux-elevated bar food (and not worth the price.
Loaded potato hush puppies, by its name, should be a cornbread potato croquette with baked potato fixings. This was a mashed potato ball with the type of spicy aioli typically best served with poke.
The chicken lettuce wrap is just a deconstructed Thai chicken salad that is hard to build and is better consumed as a salad...but not on the tiny plate they chose.
Brussel sprouts were alright but the croutons should either be cut smaller or they should just toss them with breadcrumbs. It's hard to eat both a Brussel sprout (half) and these monstrous mouth-cutting herbed bricks.
The menu is confusing and it is hard to get excited about items that don't make sense. Stop trying to cater to everyone and do one thing really well. I feel like they are trying to compete with BJs, which is another place I generally avoid for these very reasons.
Apple huckleberry open faced pie has excellent vanilla bean ice cream (but... is that really worth mentioning?) and the hand-folded sugar crust is notable.
HOWEVER, not only can you not taste huckleberry, it looks like more like a spread than the made-in-house compote one would expect from "wild huckleberries".
Service is excellent but that doesn't compensate for how utterly unsatisfying everything is. I was STARVING when we got here (we been traveling all day) and as famished as we were, not a single thing sounded appetizing. And by the end of the meal I was still exceedingly hungry.
Perhaps the biggest dining disappointment in my entire life. If not for the happy hour prices and their e-club introductory coupon, it would've been a total loss. But we won't be racking up on more points on that membership.
Speaking of memberships, there's a Costco around the corner. Save yourself the trouble and just buy 3 of their pizzas instead.
Better yet, Blackbear diner aims for the same ambience but succeeds in a the ways this franchise fails. Go there if you want a rustic small mountain town feel with food you...
Read moreWe’ve always loved Lazy Dog—especially the concept of being able to bring our dogs with us and order food for them too. But our visit last weekend to the Rancho Cucamonga location left us disappointed.
We arrived at 11:30 AM with three dogs (one being a service animal for my autistic son), signed in, and waited outside for nearly an hour in the heat. What bothered us was that others were being seated outside before us—even those without pets. It felt like we were being overlooked just because we had animals with us.
At around 12:15, I went inside with my dad (who is diabetic and was starting to feel sick from waiting so long), bringing the service dog with me. A staff member had just dealt with another dog that had an accident inside, and though it wasn’t our pet, she turned to me and told me my dog couldn’t be inside. I had to explain it was a service animal. She seemed frustrated and didn’t really acknowledge my explanation, which was frustrating since we were doing everything by the book.
When we were finally seated, I immediately asked the server to rush my dad’s food, and thankfully that part was handled quickly. But for the rest of us, the food still took over 30 minutes. We also asked for shade because the sun was directly on us—they said they’d help with the umbrella, but never did. We ended up trying to set it up ourselves.
The food and concept are still great—our dogs got water and their meals, which we appreciate. But the service felt off. It seemed like the staff outside weren’t very attentive, just hanging out talking, and the check-in experience was dismissive and borderline rude.
We’ve been to other Lazy Dog locations like Corona and Temecula, and while we love the brand, it often feels like guests with pets are treated as second-class. That shouldn’t be the case—especially at a restaurant that prides itself on being dog-friendly. Everyone should feel welcome, and staff should be trained to treat guests (and service animals)...
