My boyfriend and I visited Mi Warike for the first time over the weekend, and we were so impressed. I grew up around the best Peruvian restaurants in Northeast Jersey, and this place brought all those flavors back—and more. It’s small with warm decor and music that gave me serious nostalgia and made me miss my home country in the best way.
We got the whole rotisserie chicken with tostones and steak cut fries for $24—a steal. The chicken was perfectly marinated, juicy (even the breast!), and full of flavor. We cleaned the bones! The tostones were thin and crispy, and their ají verde was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had— so good I’d take a bottle home. Same goes for their huancaína sauce. The papa a la huancaína was beautifully presented, and the chicha morada was so refreshing. It took a few minutes to come out, and that’s when I realized they were making it fresh. (I ordered a second one to go) You can taste the difference—it wasn’t from a mix or bottle. It had that natural sweetness, real spices of cinnamon and clove.
You can tell everything here is made with love and pride. We left already planning our next visit to try the lucuma shake, anticuchos, seafood, lomo—and even breakfast. Mi Warike is a hidden gem in Raritan, and if you love Peruvian food, you...
Read moreI called to make a reservation for Mother’s Day. Upon arriving to the restaurant I was asked if I had reservation which I confirmed I did ..I should have taken the empty restaurant as a sign of the experience I was going to receive.. we picked this Peruvian restaurant for our mothers to enjoy their day .. unfortunately the food was not tasteful ..if you have had Peruvian food you would find the quality to be very tasteless..also the service was not very good either as we didn’t receive any plates ..utensils.. for our appetizers .. we had to request the server to even bring us additional cups for our party of 6 when he only brought us 2. Don’t get the Chilcano soup it was watered down fish soup tasted was not good we could still taste the frozen seafood after taste. ..we were disappointed with the food, service and atmosphere as we really went by the reviews from many of the people that have had “ good “ experiences. I’m upset we shared our mothers...

We loved the authentic and tasty menu.
We got:
lomo saltado (deliciously seasoned sliced beef cooked with veggies on a bed of fries and a side of rice)
Arroz con mariscos- described as a mini paella on rice (my wife said it was so generous she only ate half and took the rest home). Came with an amazing lime / onion salad.
Papa a la huancaina - a staple Peruvian dish. A yellow creamy cheese sauce (more flavorful than it sounds) with potatoes
Chicha morada - a naturally purple corn drink that is popular in Peru. Tasty and refreshing
A hardworking and kind family runs this restaurant. We were thoroughly surprised and satisfied with our dinner— for a random Wednesday night, they made the food fairly quickly and it came out very delicious!
Tell all your friends to give this place a chance— I believe you won’t regret it
