I am so excited to share how much I love Jiayuan! I went for the first time today - I have been craving dumplings since Lunar New Year. I arrived just at 4pm, just as they opened for evening service. Linda welcomed me warmly and when I decided to eat in rather than take out, she kept me company and was so very kind and attentive. Believe me when I tell you that the pork dumplings are so incredibly delicious! I wasn't surprised to learn that 2 ladies are in the kitchen just to make dumplings and everything is made from scratch, in house. The. chicken fried rice was also excellent. So not only was the food superb and the place clean, spotless, and just so very casually elegant, the warmth and hospitality of this family was even more impressive. As a Chef, I always love when someone else does the cooking ;). I love being a guest and feeling like I've come to someone's home for dinner. Jiayuan's passion for sharing their time-honored menu and making their guests feel important is worthy of applause. Our world needs this kind of hospitality right now. I'll be returning over and again, and will be honored as town crier to share...
Read moreSo hate to write a negative review on a new restaurant, but hoping this helps them moving forward.
Had such high hopes when I read about them in Eater. There's not any good Chinese restaurants near me and since I was in the neighborhood and had a hankering for Moo Goo Gai Pan, I wanted to give them a try.
PROS: The staff is nice, professional and gracious and the food was seasoned well and had good flavor overall. But...
CONS: 1) Prices are quite high to begin with. 2) Your entre will not include rice....that's extra! 3) They don't include descriptions of many dishes on their menu, so I had no idea my MGGP would include green bell peppers, which I hate. I've never had those in this dish ever before. Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but by the time I picked all of the peppers out, my pricey dish ($16) just shrank by one third...really not happy about that!
I hope they will rethink their rice policy, include item descriptions on the menu and maybe offer rotating daily specials to help with the high regular pricing for those more...
Read moreJiayuan… This is totally home meal style from authentic China cuisine I wish I could have steamed dumplings but here we go… The cucumber salad , not like other places this one isn’t saucey at all. Just right amount of sauce and hand crushed style to make more cucumber juice flavor. Very exquisite touch.
The shrimp wanton soup…. They put dried sea weed and the dried shrimp to more umami, but these two factors are game changers. The broth is so clean and perfect and the wanton has perfect taste… The dumplings… I’ve ordered three kinds… All the dumplings made by orders and home meal styled shell and juicy inside and the flavor is so authentic!!!
All the dishes are pretty exuberant flavors… the only thing I wanna recommend is plating… You are using ceramic plates all that’s super considerate for person like me as a master chef and my super massive picky love… you did appreciate that but if you change the platings more beautiful you have way more customers!!! Great job chef and...
