As a local, I am absolutely mad for this place -- I wouldn't call them a traditional ramen stop, but I also feel like that's their strength. I do love a good tonkotsu ramen, and they definitely have it; I keep coming back for the curry up ramen option, though, which is flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. No matter which protein I choose, I'm always happy: I tend omnivorous, and have never been unhappy with their perfectly marinated firm tofu option when I go meatless. (The pork and the chicken meatballs are also winners, but tofu often gets a bad rep as flavorless. This one isn't.) Their gyoza are delicious no matter which option you choose, and I love that I can get garlic edamame as a starter here.
I have yet to eat in, though I love the atmosphere when I walk through the door: the indoor and outdoor seating are both clean and look comfort an enough for a meal. I've found the staff to be friendly and helpful, never had a single bad thing from the kitchen, and overall love the takeout and delivery experience. (The packaging for go ramen is really clever, too, and keeps noodles + toppings separate from the broth while keeping it in one container, which making it easy to drop in once the food is home.)
I love this place and their food. In an area absolutely swimming with good ramen restaurants, Kotsu definitely worth your...
Read moreWe were staying in Lomita for a week and ramen is usually our go-to meal when traveling because of how light it is. We have a favourite ramen place in San Jose that has such good vegan options so much so that we even went to Japan and no ramen ever came close to their (San Jose's) quality and taste....up until now. We went on a weekday and got the Tonyu Curry Up! (Vegan) and it was DIVINE!!!! The braised veggies were chef's kiss and the broth was extremely well flavored. Vegan options everywhere else are mostly miso based or very watery but Kotsu and Chef Diego really make you feel seen and cared for by putting just as much (if not more) effort into crafting their vegan dishes. Not only was it a treat for our palettes but also our hearts cos we found an amazing friend in our host Shalini, whose family runs the place. She was so warm and fun and kind that it made us want to go back twice in a row. She even went above and beyond to help me customize the order as per my tastes. Only absolute sweethearts found here :)) Kotsu was easily one of the highlights of our trip and we cannot wait to go back and try more of their...
Read moreFirst time to this place, passed by it hundreds of times. As we entered we received a nice warm welcome and a smile.
I asked what what the most popular item ordered was. He suggested the Kotsu Ramen. We ordered the Pork along with Pork Gyoza.
Our order took only a few minutes to arrive hot.
The presentation of the Katsu Bow was nicely done. The broth was eich and great tasting with the mild heat seasoning. It came with a half Century Egg which was great. The yolk was creamy and yum!. The pork is actually a nicely season THICK cut of bacon which went great with the soup
Lots of noodles and cut green onions very filling. This bowl fed both of us. One of the top Ramen Places we've visited.
The Gyoza was nicely steams with seasoned pork inside.
Overall, this gets our yum award!!!!!
On a added note the staff checked on us several times. He did this...
