Summary: Tiny little establishment, but solid sandwiches. Great quality, taste, service. Sweet coffee drinks are definitely not sweet, so don't expect that if that is your preference (like mine). Value is good, but not great (not a large portion if you are really hungry). Parking available along the street across from the shop on Catalina.
Went here for the first time with a buddy that picked it based on its Yelp reviews and close proximity to Sea D' Sea before our first PADI course (which is the last one that Sea D' Sea is offering after 44 years of business :-( ). There were just a few tables inside, a counter where one orders, and a friendly craftsman/woman behind it. I got the pesto after reading about it from another person's review. Each sandwich comes with a side of pasta salad, quinoa, fruit, or garden salad...something like that, and each is about $9 or so. I also got a white chocolate mocha since my buddy was buying :)
A few minutes after ordering, our sandwiches were delivered nice and warm to our table. The sandwiches were on the small side, as were the sides (I got fruit). However, I must say that the sandwiches were delicious. I normally don't really go for chicken because there is almost always a chance some will be gristly and I hate that. This pesto sandwich was super tender, nicely textured, had great flavors from all of the ingredients (especially the pesto), and was all around delicious. If it was a little larger or a little cheaper, I would like it all the more, but I do appreciate the quality of the execution. Very impressive.
The coffee I got could have been plain black coffee for all I knew because it tasted like that to me. I really prefer coffee drinks that taste sweet more than they taste like coffee, and this did not, so I had to shovel in a bunch of creamer, Splenda, and cocoa powder. Be warned.
Other than that, a great place that is definitely worth checking out. It is right on the Northwest corner of the...
Read moreI had to edit my review. I haven't been here in a while, and I probably should have stayed away. SLOW service, bad quality ingredients, overcooked, old and slimy fruits... AND very bad service on part of the employee who was training a new one. Firstly, it took them 20 minutes to bring out a small bowl of essentially eggs and sausage (with way too much corn and tortilla strips). It shouldn't have taken more than 5, definitely less than 10 minutes. I had to walk over to ask for my order. The lady was training a new recruit. The trainer didn't bother to apologise. In fact, she looked at me as if I insulted her by asking where my order was (I was very polite). The new trainee was much nicer, and came by to apologise and ask how my order was. When I was leaving, the trainer came by to pick up the dishes. I told her the fruits were bad, and again that look, and no apologies, but a "thank you for your feedback".
And BTW it is way too overpriced. I don't mind paying for something that is made with good quality ingredients and actually tastes good. This did not deliver on either.
I used to come here before and the food and service was always friendly, and neighborly. And they were slow, but not this bad.
I hope the owner reads this and makes positive changes. This used to be a really good place.
Good coffee and really good food for everyone in including vegans just a few minutes from the beach. Oh and they have smoothies too. And guess what- you can order online or by phone. Which is awesome since this is a...
Read moreSacks is a local institution and everyone loves this spot. They have amazing breakfast burritos, wraps, killer sammies, smoothies, coffee and pretty much everything you could ever need for breakfast, lunch, or a healthy refresher to take to the beach or on a walk. And the people here are super nice, the cook always smiles and is really friendly.. the store just has a great vibe. They have patio seating with an ocean view where locals love to chill and snack. Even their side dishes are home made and delicious.. the quinoa salad is a nice healthy option and oh so good. They also have plenty of salads and vegetarian choices on the menu. The best part here is the prices.. they seem to have missed all the inflation and constant increases because their prices remain super reasonable. Whatever you order here it is always made fresh to order and comes out piping hot, cheese perfectly melted, looking and tasting fantastic. The location is right on the corner of Ave I and Catalina NW corner. Ideal spot to grab some lunch to take...
