The Original Pancake House in Redondo Beach is one of our absolute favorite breakfast and brunch spots. This place is pure heaven, especially for my 7-year-old son, whose love for pancakes knows no bounds – he'd probably eat them for every meal if he could! Thankfully, their children's menu wisely includes a half order of his beloved chocolate chip pancakes, which makes him one happy camper.
And speaking of pancakes, the name doesn't lie – their selection is incredible! I've counted about 20 different kinds, which means there's always something new and delicious to try. While my son is a predictable fan of anything chocolate, I love upgrading my usual order to one of their signature pancakes. My personal favorites are the coconut pancakes, the vibrant fresh strawberry pancakes, and for a savory twist, the bacon pancakes.
Beyond the glorious pancakes, their omelets are equally fantastic. You really can't go wrong with either the classic ham or bacon omelet. If you're leaning a bit healthier, their fresh vegetarian or mushroom omelets are also delicious and satisfying choices.
My wife, for her part, has been completely hooked on their homemade corned beef hash during our last couple of visits. It's a rich blend of corned beef, potatoes, onions, and heavy cream, perfectly topped with two eggs cooked any style. And the best part? It comes with four of their famous potato pancakes, served with a choice of applesauce or sour cream. It's truly a hearty and flavorful dish. Just FYI, she never finishes it and usually eats about half and saves the other half for another meal.
One of my favorite things about The Original Pancake House is their attentive staff. They seem to make it their mission to top off your water or coffee before you even have to think about it. I absolutely love places that do that – no awkward waving down a server just to get a refill!
Now, if you're feeling adventurous or just want something extra special, you absolutely must try their Dutch Baby. This oven-baked pancake is served with whipped butter, a squeeze of lemon, and a dusting of powdered sugar. It's big enough to share, light, airy, and utterly delicious. Seriously, try it at least once – you won't regret it!
The food is consistently fantastic, the atmosphere is cozy, and it's simply a joy to start our day here. This place is a solid 5 out of 5...
Read moreWell what can I say that this place doesn't speak for itself. We don't live too close to this place however my family and I love coming here. The staff is always so pleasant and helpful. I highly advise that you come early though. This place can get pretty packed by 9:30am on the weekends. I haven't had a chance to go during the week so I can't vouch for the weekday schedule. We try to arrive before 9am and we'll be seated pretty quickly. Also the service is pretty awesome because the food comes out fairly soon.
Ok the food is just AMAZING! If your not a coffee fan then ignore this part; the coffee is by far one of the best in the south bay for breakfast joints. Hands down! They also let you take some home if you ask for a togo cup. I've been guilty of that more than a few times. To the good stuff now.
The dutch baby is a must if you've never had it before. Be sure to order it with some strawberries on the side to add as well. I can't quite explain what it is but it reminds me of a crepe like heavy egg tasting soufflé. Im sure that doesn't help. Just try it! We have had almost every style of pancake here and have never been disappointed. My personal favorites are the potato and chocolate chip. They're just sensational. The homemade whip cream is so good. My wife likes the omelettes a lot so if we don't do a dutch baby we'll get an omelette. The western or Irish are her favorites. Regardless I can go on and on about this place but its just great, hence why a long wait time if you don't get there early...
Read moreI first discovered the OPH in Aliso Viejo in1996 when my wife was pregnant with our second daughter. It was with that second daughter that I recently enjoyed another delicious breakfast at the OPH in Redondo Beach.
If you haven't been to any of the So Cal locations in Aliso Viejo, Orange, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Whittier, or Redondo Beach, don't eat breakfast out again until you do. Their menu is rife with pancakes in shapes, sizes, and flavors you'll find nowhere else. These include pecan, banana, Hawaiian, bacon, sourdough, and a few other varieties. There are the baked pancakes: the Dutch Baby and the Apple Pancake, both delicious and filling.
My go to are the 49er Flapjacks. Somewhere between a crepe and a pancake, these are gooey, rich, and as big as the plate. The recipe is a highly guarded secret, so OPH is the only place to experience these tasty flapjacks. If you don't have them with real maple syrup, you haven't truly experienced these or any of their pancakes. However, you'll have to bring your own to this location; it's not a menu option as it is in Anaheim (I'm not sure about the others.)
There is more than pancakes here. There are waffles, crepes, omelettes, and all variety of breakfast meats. The coffee is decent, and the bill won't require you to beg or steal. Whether you choose to borrow...
