As someone who has worked as a server throughout college and post-grad—at places like Applebee’s and Cracker Barrel IE full-service.
I completely understand that the restaurant environment can be hectic. Staff can be stretched thin or just have an off day. That said, when several service issues stack up, it becomes clear that retraining may be necessary.
Here were the key issues during my recent visit:
Delayed Greeting: It took about 10 minutes for anyone to greet us after we were seated. I know the industry standard is around 2 minutes, and the restaurant was not particularly busy at the time.
Incorrect Order: My fiancée requested her burger "dry" (no sauce), but it was served with sauce. The food was delivered by a runner, and runners are typically expected to verify tickets before bringing plates out.
Billing Error: We were double charged for the burgers. With only two items ordered (burgers and fries), this should have been easy to catch. I had to point out the error to our server.
No Beverage Refill: My drink sat empty for most of the meal, placed visibly at the edge of the table as a cue. Unfortunately, we were never asked about refills or offered more to drink.
The food itself was okay, but the service turned what could’ve been a good experience into a mediocre one.
Despite the issues, I still left a 15% tip—though I typically tip 25% for accurate service and up to 35% for truly great service.
I’m offering this feedback constructively, in hopes that it helps improve training or awareness for the team. I know firsthand that good service makes all the difference in whether a...
Read moreDisappointing visit to Rock & Brews on PCH. We’ve been here multiple times without issue, but this visit was enough for us to not need to come back. Where do I start… It wasn’t terribly busy (maybe 20 percent capacity), definitely not understaffed, but the wait staff were incredibly slow and inattentive. There were times when there was zero waitstaff employees in the seating area for over 5 minutes. The tables were not stocked with their usual napkins and silverware, nor did they bring any out with our food. So we had to wait to find someone to bring us silverware before we could eat. Our ketchup bottle at the table was empty also. We had to ask for water twice. Meanwhile, there were two male employees who seemed like the managers(?) wearing Rock & Brews apparel moving between spots behind the bar to pour a drink for themselves or when an order came in and then sitting at a table in the back having a drink and watching the dodgers… and then they would tell the waitresses to do something occasionally. The food was subpar- the pretzel was under salted (literally plain) and the beer cheese dip flavorless and grainy (which you pay extra for). The hamburger was over cooked from what I ordered… The shrimp linguine was good though. The beer taps all looked to be pouring flat; the Stone Lager I got was underwhelming. I watched a few pours at the bar, and a Guinness poured with very little if any head. This left us completely unsatisfied with our experience and don’t feel it was...
Read moreI’ve frequented R&B’s in Redondo since it opened with mixed feelings, it’s kind of hit or miss and expensive. Overall I’d give the food a C+. My son likes the Wings, they have a great selection of beer, so on occasion, it works.
Today, for Sunday football, we ordered 2 pounds of Wings about 45 minutes before kickoff. When the estimated delivery time came and went, I reached our to GrubHub to see what was going on..
Me: My order was scheduled to be delivered by 1PM and has yet to leave the restaurant.
GH: I just called the driver and he said that the restaurant is busy and has not prepared the order yet so I am calling the restaurant to check the issue
NOTE that this is now nearly an hour after the order was placed..
At this point I remember that this happened once before when I’d ordered delivery from R&B.. as if, because you’re not there drinking, you’re the Redheaded Stepchild. The driver was standing there for over 45 minutes waiting for 2 orders of flipping Wings! Not exactly rocket science.
So the Wings finally arrive, I lay them out and the quantity looks really small, plus the additional Blue Cheese dressing requested wasn’t included. Remember, I ordered 2 pounds, at nearly $40, so I break out the scale and weigh the Wings. They’re more than a HALF pound light! I’m thinking, a little bit is excusable, but more than 25% is not an accident, its a policy.
Perhaps this is how they control food cost, by cheating their customers. Over price,...
