Biddle's Escape in Pittsburgh offers a cozy and unique haven for coffee and food enthusiasts alike, nestled in the vibrant Lawrenceville neighborhood. The café’s charm is undeniable, with its eclectic, inviting decor and warm atmosphere—perfect for those looking to relax or engage in casual conversation. It’s a place where you can sip your beverage, people-watch, and enjoy the community vibe. On my recent visit, I decided to sample their food offerings, starting with the grilled cheese. It was, without a doubt, the highlight of my meal. The sandwich was perfectly toasted, with gooey, melted cheese that struck a wonderful balance of savory richness. It was comfort food at its finest, and I could see why it’s a customer favorite. Unfortunately, the house soup fell flat in comparison. Described as a comforting pairing for the sandwich, it turned out bland and unexciting. There was a lack of seasoning and depth of flavor that left me disappointed. The coffee, while decent, didn’t stand out as much as I’d hoped. It was drinkable and served in a nice, warm cup, but it didn’t have the depth or complexity that might leave a lasting impression. For a café that places a strong emphasis on quality drinks, this could certainly be an area for improvement. As for the tea selection, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the presentation. The tea bags were all black, making it difficult to see or smell the contents before choosing a tea. The lack of visibility and the inability to sample the aroma felt like a missed opportunity to elevate the experience for tea drinkers who may appreciate a more sensory approach to selecting their beverages. On a more positive note, Biddle's Escape excels in customer service. The staff are friendly, approachable, and attentive, making sure that every guest feels welcomed. The atmosphere, while small, is undeniably charming with its quirky decor and cozy seating arrangements, making it easy to settle in for an afternoon of relaxation or work. Additionally, the café offers plenty of off-street parking, which is a real convenience in the busy Lawrenceville area. In conclusion, Biddle’s Escape shines in its atmosphere and customer service, but the food and drink offerings could use some refinement. While the grilled cheese is a standout, the soup lacks flavor, and the coffee, while serviceable, doesn’t quite deliver the boldness one might expect from a café of this caliber. The tea experience could also use some improvement to cater to those who enjoy a more curated selection. Nonetheless, for a laid-back coffeehouse experience with a welcoming ambiance, Biddle’s Escape remains a charming choice for anyone in the area.

Visited twice late October 2023 during my fall trip to Pittbsburgh and visiting this shop was one of my favorite moments. This quintessenial local coffee local cofee shop located in a beatiful neighborhood where you can enjoy the fall foliage and delicioius chai latte. This coffee shop had all of the core requirements desired of a cozy coffee shop vibes and more. Atmosphere: unique, spacious but cozy, a very cool patio space, cool randmo things for sale aside from the food, bakery items, and limited food options. Drinks: Both times I ordered a chai latte with oat milk and cinnamon. Delicious and perfectly sweet. For lattes, they had SO many syrup options including a few madfe in house as well as some sugar free option. They also have all the common main milk alternatives. Baked goods: I ordered the brownie and it was good as well! A nice size two that can be split or saved for later. Seems to be popular spot in the neighborhood too but it never felt "crowded". The staff and baristas aref reidnly- I'd def. recommend a visit if you're in the area!

I was really put off by the attitudes of the two workers there when I went for the first time today. I ordered a pour over and the young woman behind the register paused and asked if I just wanted drip. It threw me off, so I asked if they don’t offer pour over even though it’s on the menu? I know not all shops offer it, but it was there and I love pour overs. She hesitated and said “never mind,” and mumbled under her breath that it can take a while, and me not wanting to be a difficult customer I just paid and let it go. It was just not a good interaction.

I’m 100% confident they waited ten minutes then just gave me a drip coffee. It tasted like drip and not at all like an even half decent pour over. Either that or they have a bad system and bad beans for pour overs. They really should just take it off the menu. My friend’s cappuccino wasn’t very good either.

The atmosphere is nice and cute, though a lot of the furniture was wet. Not a big deal to me. It’s a nice place to meet if you want to catch up with a friend.

I’d give it another try if the coffee was good, but it wasn’t and my interaction with the staff didn’t give me a good first impression. I ended up getting coffee from Madeleine’s which was better (and with good service despite it being way busier...

We finally got to this spot today after moving to the neighborhood a few months ago. Had a bad first time experience which is a shame because if we loved it we would frequent often to support. We had 2 friends recommend here so I’m disappointed I have to tell them about our bad experience with the service. My husband and I went in with no line and I asked the person taking orders how they were doing and silence as a response … k so placed my coffee order started to order a bagel and was cut off to say they are out of vegan cream cheese so I said oh do you have the scallion cream cheese and they said no. So I asked if I ordered the grilled cheese it would be without the scallion cream cheese and was told the scallion cream cheese is available but only on the grilled cheese lol they said they were out of breakfast burritos too and as we waited 2 people got called for their breakfast burrito orders. I run a business and customer service is sooo important to me this business was so lacking with their explanations of the small menu and snippy bad attitude of the person...
