My family and I were subjected to an appalling treatment at this restaurant, especially at the hands of a woman named Wanda. I don't want to throw around the R word because I know how defensive people get when they hear that, but at the very least, the prejudice against my black family was staggering.
As soon as my family and I arrived at the restaurant, trying to survey around to see if there was anyone to attend to us, a woman walked out aggressively, angrily, and shooed us away without really saying anything.
it was Wanda with a scowl. She said there was no space. By the way, she hadn't even asked us if we had a reservation. So there just was no way of her knowing we had no reservation.
It was when she realized that we saw some empty seats outside that she then asked if we had a reservation. We said we wanted to try a walk-in. And then she put us on the worst possible table. The sun was blazing, fiery and the shade only partially covered the chair. We asked whether it would be possible to get another space because we had just walked under this really terrible sun. She was dismissive in her response, insisting there was nowhere else for us. She also implied that we better take it or leave it, and that the sun was going to change positions anyway. All of this was said with a scorn and condescension that I can't quite put in words. And then Wanda walked away leaving us to it.
There was no "welcome", no "Hi", not even "good afternoon", not even once. NOT once were we greeted or welcomed. We sat down and she brought us water. My own glass had a lip stain on it, but I dared not complain because I did not know what this woman would say in response. And I sure did not want to provoke any scene there. And we were just left there for a good while. I looked around, wondering if somehow I should have known that people who look like me were not welcome at the establishment. Did we just miss an unwritten rule and wander into a place where certain people were not welcome? And even if you had some gripes with us, couldn't you at least pretend for a few minutes, an hour at most and do your job?
In the meantime, we overheard a waitress saying that someone inside wanted to switch, so my sister went over to tell them that we really wanted to go inside because the flies were unbearable; they buzzed and buzzed, in our ears, over our water. Wanda said someone just came in and is already settled down inside so it was a no for us. Besides, there are flies everywhere anyway, she added. So someone came in AFTER us and was seated inside despite the fact that we had all but pleaded just moments earlier to be seated inside and were ignored? Again, she responded to my sister with a cavalier shrug and scowl on her face.
Much later, a waitress came by to ask if we were ready to order while serving us some complimentary fruits. "Order?" We all looked at each other. No one had been here to welcome us, much less give us a menu to look at. We told the waitress we did not have a menu. And then when we got the menu, we only saw brunch options. I said, please we saw a lunch menu online and came for that not brunch. She said that's all they had. Again, brusque, disinterested. As we talked about this among ourselves, Wanda, probably realizing her incompetence and horrible service, came back to our table and tried cracking jokes, which fell flat. She joked about how she was right about the sun moving places and how "well, the flies were still there, unfortunately". And then she said something strange, abrupt, and out of place: "We are all God's creation". Well, Wanda, it seems to me it is you who needs to be convinced about that. We ultimately left the horror show that is that restaurant.
I can't attest to their food since they never let us reach that stage. I will say to other black people: don't bother with this restaurant. Go where you are valued and treated well. At Victoria's, either they lack basic customer service or they don't want certain people at...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience here. My partner ordered crab bisque soup and the crab cake entree. I ordered the wedge salad and shrimp and scallop Alfredo. We each ordered one cocktail while we waited for our food to come. Our server Elvis was less than helpful with the menu and even less friendlier than he was helpful. Our soup and salad came out. My partner was happy with his soup but my wedge salad was litterally just a half head of ice burg lettuce with 2 cherry tomatoes that had each been cut in half. The ranch dressing was runny and not real ranch dressing. The menu states that the salad comes with ice burg totatoes bacon and carrots. Mine had none of those ingredients. Next our entrees came out and both our water and drink glasses were empty and they were never refilled for the entire course of the dinner nor were we asked if we wanted another drink. My partner said his crab cakes were ok not anything great. My scallops and shrimp Alfredo however were horrible. The scallops were under cooked as was the fettuccine and they were all drowning in olive oil and butter. I never tasted the shrimp. I called for a manager and sent the dish back. I sat there and waited for my bf to finish eating his meal thinking that the waiter Elvis would come by to offer me a drink or refill me water while I sat and waited. Elvis never did. The manager came out while my bf finished his dinner and dropped off the check with the entree I did not like taken off. As we were looking at the bill and discussing the bill our server Elvis came over and took the bill from us which totaled 87.00 and said he would be right back. He returned with the check and this time he added 18% gratuity to the check. We were a party of just 2. We were not part of a larger party of other people. Just the two of us at a small table outside. When I asked him if he added gratuity he told me yes he did and that as a bartender he had the right to add 18% gratuity to all the checks on tables he served. I had never heard of adding gratuity to a party of less than 6 and certainly not 2 people. Mind you the 18% gratuity was more than half the price of the entree we had removed. We spoke to the manager again and she removed the gratuity that Elvis added to our check. After our experience at this resteraunt with our server Elvis we will not be returning to this...
Read moreLet me take you on a journey to the slow descent into hell, as was my night at this establishment. My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day for dinner. I looked up the menu before hand. They did not clarify that they only would be serving the Valentine's 5 course dinner on their website. That was the first disappointment, but the menu looked descent. The first course, which was shrimp over guac & some type of bread, was divine. As was the dinner rolls. However, the next course of lobster bisque was dreadful. There were about 3-4 extremely tiny bits of lobster on top. Once I finished that part, the rest of the creamy soup was so awful, I could not finish it. My husband had the strawberry spinach balsamic salad and he could barely stomach it. The next course was the melted brie inside of some type of flaky bread with a drizzle of jelly. The taste was meh. They put way too much brie inside. It was just a huge glob. I ended up scraping out half of it. My husband had one bite and was done. The next course was the fish with risotto and asparagus. The risotto was meh, the fish was bland but the asparagus was decent (it's asparagus, there isn't much to it). I barely had more than a few bites. Finally, we had dessert. My husband had the brownie with a chocolate covered strawberry. The presentation was terrible, the brownie looked so dry. My husband was very unimpressed. I had the tiramisu, which was mediocre. I had a couple bites and was done. The service was a disgrace as well. It literally took 25-30 minutes between each course. Which was even more frustrating to wait so long to be disappointed EACH time. Also, the pièce de résistance, was the bill being over $200. Normally, my husband and I don't mind paying whatever the price for food if it's worth it. Save yourself the misfortune and order a pizza somewhere. The only reason I am giving this restaurant 2 stars is because the overall decor and ambiance was very well put together. The live saxophone playing was a great touch, we were given a rose and a few chocolates in a goodie bag on our way out, and our waitress was an absolute gem. She really tried so hard to make sure we were having a good night and I could not bring myself to tell her the truth. I wish I could remember her name because she really was amazing. She was a very tall, elderly...
