This place caught (no pun intended) our eye as we were headed to Thrashers at Rehoboth Beach. I LOVE fish and chips, so we decided to give it a shot. The cozy interior has a variety of signs and such with a clear British theme. The music is an homage to British music. It was quaint and comfortable. Due to it being the off-season, there was plenty of seating. We perused the menu for a moment and decided to sample a few items to get a feel for the freshly made items. According to our server, Mo, everything is freshly prepared, freshly battered, and, where appropriate, fried. We ordered the shrimp sampler which included a cornucopia of fried and stuffed shrimp. It was delicious. The stuffed shrimp had the perfect amount of crab. The coconut shrimp had a wonderful coconut flavor. It wasn't too overpowering. We also sampled the freshly made onion rings. They were amazing. They were very crunchy, slightly sweet, and slightly salty. The star of the show was the fish and chips. The filets were perfectly battered and crunchy. The fish was flaky and tender. I tried some with the malt vinegar, and it was tart and crunchy. I also tried some with their tartar sauce, and it was also delightful. We saved some room for the battered and fried cheesecake. Wow. It was piping hot, so we had to let it vent for a moment, but afterward...incredible. There was a smattering of powdered sugar, a drizzle of raspberry sauce and a few dollops of whipped cream. It was decadent. There were some additional British items that I'd love to go back and try, like the bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, and the sticky toffee pudding. The prices were around what you'd expect for the location and well worth the value. We'll...

They are very mistrusting of people with food allergies. My mother and I ordered lunch, and since my daughter has a deadly food allergy, we brought her Subway. Our waitress rolled her eyes, told us that it was "fine" but if the owner saw it she would flip out. She told us to keep it low and hide it as she ate. What!?!? We should have just left at that moment. My daughter was embarrassed and did not want to leave after we were already seated. (I think the server thought we were being cheap and did not want to purchase food for a teen.) She went to get our drinks---came back with the same bad attitude. It was not until we showed her my daughter's purse full of epi-pens, inhalers and meds that she believed us. (How sad. Trust me---every teenage girl wants a purse full of meds and loves to be embarrassed by a snarky server.) At that point, we felt it ruined our lunch. My daughter ate her subway low in the booth like she stole a roll---a la Oliver Twist.
I get not wanting boardwalk food---but my daughter can die if she eats certain foods. My mother and I were paying customers and she was not taking up any space. Not exactly good for business if we took a chance. And, given that food allergies are considered a disability, they should treat people better that are tagging along with their paying customers. It is not a dietary or life choice.
I cannot believe the owner puts this out there for...
Read moreOutstanding and simple food. I got the fishermanâs pie, shrimp salmon and other seafood and veggies in a light sauce covered with mashed potatoes and baked until crisp. My boyfriend got the fish and chips. The chips are just French fries. Good, but nothing special. The beer batter fish was very crispy outside and the fish fillet inside was light and tasty. Also we had a cup of Maryland crab soup and white clam chowder. Both were excellent, though I thought it was a bit salty. And the coconut shrimp with the sweet and spicy sauce was excellent. Everything came out quickly, though not rushed. And it was all piping hot.
We arrived just after 12 noon and the place was empty. I was worried no one likes the place. Within 15 minutes the place was nearly filled. The service was very friendly and prompt. The decor had lots of British flags and plaques with the names of British places. Despite most people in beach attire, it was cleaner, nicer than some pizza joint on the boardwalk, but in no way was stuffy or fancy where you feel out of place.
I regret not trying the sticky toffee pudding, I was just too full from the meal and I probably wouldnât enjoy it cold later. Next time dessert first!
The prices were fair, about what youâd pay anywhere: $15-20 for an entree, $8 for a Malibu bay breeze. $6...
