(My comments reflect my opinion during the summer/on-season, though I feel pretty much the same for the entire year, howevera lot of stores on the boardwalk have differing hours duringtheoff-season) I love this boardwalk and the PRIDE the community takes in ensuring that it is kept meticulously clean and maintained. Of course, during the summer it's a mad house. My favorite time to go is right before sunrise, just to be able to watch the sun rise right over the ocean. Be prepared. There will be quite a few people out on the boardwalk and beach at that time. I have found that if you are NOT an early riser, BUT still want to be able to get a parking spot without having to walk a mile, (or heck, even just get a parking spot!) the best time during the week is to get to the boardwalk no later than 8AM. Parking is free until 10AM. However I decided to try out the parking meter at 5:30 AM one day, and my fees didn't start until 10AM, which was really nice as my husband and I had decided on this particular day we were going to be there until 4PM, and we didn't want to have to set alarms to go remind ourselves to go pay for parking. PARKING IS STRICTLY ENFORCED, and that is evident by the amount of parking enforcement officers present. I've actually seen the officers stand and wait, and when that meter goes over by one minute, they're quite quick to write that ticket! I've not received a ticket myself, but have been told that the tickets are insanely high. There is an app that can be used for the meter. However, I've yet to use it. The meter goes by your license plate number, not the number of the spot you're utilizing. That changed a few years ago. If you're like me and opt to purchase parking at the meter, hence receiving a paper ticket, the ticket itself does not need to be displayed, but I do so anyway, just as a CYA move. The majority of the stores don't open until 10AM (there are a few exceptions, I just Google the store to inquire about store hours), and there is a coffee shop on the Southside of the main drag, but that doesn't open until 7AM. There are trash cans everywhere and designated smoking areas on the boardwalk and beach itself. I've been told the fines for littering and smoking are astronomical. There are public bathrooms located within the bus stop, and they are some of the cleanest public bathrooms I've ever seen. The ladies that maintain these bathrooms do work for tips, and it's totally worth giving them a buck or two. These ladies have worked there for years and want to be notified if they become in a state of disarray. The umbrella and chair rental stands accept CASH only. Parking can be paid for using a card. I hope this little bit of information helps you out if you're planning on visiting...
Read moreI don't imagine it's a singular experience ... Not even for a single person ... My experiences span decades so ,it's really kind of hard to encapsulate & articulate it into a single experience ... As a child , the nearby beach was the perfect playground ... Sand for sand castles , sand to explore for creatures, treasure, & shells , Sand just to lay on & chill ... Waves ( yes, there was a time when there was an actual break or two) to surf, skim shorebreaks, body surf, boogie board , or just hang out & let the rhythm lift you & drop you ... As a teen ,you find your way into the arcades ,rides ,& games because that's where the girls were ... And if you're anything like Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh, you begin illegally finding inroads into the nightlife ... As an adult, I was drawn in by the nearby nightlife, restaurants, & some of the more esoteric, one of kind, shops ... It's a flashpoint for eastern shore culture ... The most delicious junk food ala Thrasher's French Fries, Louie's Pizza, Candy Kitchen fudge & salt water taffy ... Some of the eateries are second to none ... Some of the nearby hotels are run by actual hoteliers , not the current model of investment holdings wealth extraction machines playing a bigger version of "Flip This House" & "creating value" by stealing it from local workers . . . Anyway, when I made the move into town , I found that the daily familiarity didn't diminish what I was drawn to in the first place . It doesn't get old for me ... After a day of Sun & Surf , after the Sun goes down , after a plate of Stingray's sushi , after a matching set of Long Island Ice Teas, that slight chill you catch on sun kissed skin ,while strolling the boards ,from a meandering westerly wind , from the ocean ,is what it's all about ... It's a...
Read moreWe absolutely love Rehoboth Beach! Been twice this summer (2023) so far. It's packed in the summer, but what beach isn't? The ppl are great, and it's super laid back! If u have never been- I RECOMMEND GOING! They have Jungle Jim's right across the street (on route 1).... it's a water park, the kids have SO MUCH FUN THERE! They also have Zelky's, which is an indoor arcade on both ends of the boardwalk...1 off to the left, the other off to the right. My daughter LOVES going in there...she had racked up 180,00 some tickets. When u enter, there is a machine that u can buy a card and put however much u want on the card, and u can even reload cash onto the same card. Rehoboth also has Funland as well....a small area for the kids to play games, and get on rides. Funland targets the young 1's, as well as teens. You buy 100 tickets at the ticket booth...think it costs $25 dollars? Can't remember the price. Rehoboth has GREAT restaurants, bars, and shops that you can go to. MASON'S is a great place to eat, and they sell lobster rolls...BEST LOBSTER ROLLS AROUND!!! For breakfast I HIGHLY recommend GOOLIES...it's right next to THE BACK SIDE (Wilmington Ave.) of the Avenue Inn and Spa....that's where we stay. They have complimentary breakfast, cheese, crackers, and wine for adults from 4-5pm, and they have WARM freshly baked chocolate chip cookies for the kiddos at 8pm EVERY NIGHT. The Avenue Inn has an indoor heated pool, a jacuzzi on the deck located outside, a sauna, and a steam room all located inside the pool area...and a bathroom as well. The Avenue also has Lou who drives the guests up to the beach and they provide beach chairs too. The Avenue Inn is a WONDERFUL place to stay. GO CHECK OUT REHOBOTH....I PROMISE, YOU'RE...
