My husband and I were excited to visit the depot after reading an article printed in Nevada magazine. The article was about the history of the restaurant with the chief/owner different take on food and the art of brewing beer. We went on Memorial day during lunch service and the bar area had about 8 people and the upstairs main dining area had around 9. We were greeted by a hostess who told us that we could choose where we would like to sit. I sat at a large table in the bar area while my husband went upstairs to see the rest of the building. The owners have done a wonderful job of restoring the historical building and in keeping the beautiful features of the old train depot while also including a modern flair. The first thing to thought of was what a great place to bring friends or have a party at. I sat at the table for 15 minutes and was never given a menu or asked if I would like a drink, not even acknowledged. When my husband returned we sat there for another 10 minutes waiting for somebody to come to the table. We then decided to move to the bar in hopes that we would get quicker service but no luck. We sat at the bar and bartender who at least acknowledge our presence and gave us menus took 15 minutes to return to take our drink order but we had made good use of our wait time and was ready to order our food. My husband ordered the artichoke cheese dip and the smoked Reuben sandwich. I ordered the bone marrow with caramelized onion jam and the macaroni and cheese. My husbands appetizer came out quickly but my order took over 30 minutes. I even made a comment to the bartender if they had to go and kill the cow to get the bone. When my order came the bone marrow looked undercooked and the onion jam was cold. The macaroni was very good and my husband did enjoy his Reuben. To give you some understanding about the timing of the service when the bartender brought us our check we already had our credit card ready to give her in fear that it would take another 15 minutes for to come back and check us out. The Depot is a beautiful restaurant and the chef has a very creative menu. I'm hoping that we just came on bad day because we would love to return and have a...
Read moreThis place is absolutely fantastic. My husband and I went on a Friday night, and were able to score seats at the bar. He got the hot chicken sandwich, which was awesome. Very hot, but also very flavorful, super buttery bun, and the pickles were great. They definitely tasted house-made.
I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I asked our server/bartender (Jeremy, impeccable service, seriously) and he said that one of the two dishes I was waffling between was new that night. Salmon dumplings! I wasn't sure what to expect, but oh man. SO good. They were potsticker-style dumplings in a mild coconut curry sauce over rice (but be warned: the heat from the Fresno chilis sprinkled over the top definitely soaked into the dumplings, which was delicious, but this might not be for people who can't handle heat!). The salmon filling was firm and flavorful, not soggy pureed salmon but full chunks of meat. I'd absolutely buy it again.
Jeremy helped us pick drinks, and the cocktails were as good as the food. Despite it being Friday night, he never seemed rushed and took the time to talk to us about our options, and to tell us about their liquors in a really knowledgeable way. I've seen The Depot's bottles in liquor stores, but never picked any up because I'm kind of a cheapskate when it comes to liquor. Well, I will definitely pick some up now!
All in all, I was thrilled with our experience and will hit up The Depot again next time...
Read moreThe exterior of this place is awesome! The interior is just as cool. A modern take to an older style building. The bright colors really give the space an open airy look. The lighting they use gives the modern look and in the mens restroom they have an old safe. Definitely upscaled in the decor sense. The bartenders there are friendly and service was great! I came for happy hour and prices matched the ambiance of the place. I had a the-pom-dot-com. A vodka mixer made with pomegranate juice lemon juice and other ingredients. They have a few other drinks that I would try there that have interesting combos.
We had an order of wings and they amount for one order was plenty enough for two to share. They have two flavors a bbq and buffalo. The bartender hinted that we should mix the sauces and he wasn't wrong. Really good wings, it didn't have the crunch but the flavor was excellent. The massive burger that I had was called the depot deluxe. It had a tangy bbq sauce, bacon, jalapeno cheese, and four beef patties. The bread could hold the amount of meat that was offered. It had a great taste, the meat was just a bit dry. Other than that, if you want to be wheeled out in a wheel chair. Get the burger, if not, then still come for the awesome...
