Food deserves a 5 out of 5, really. The honey walnut prawns are just right, tender not chewy or overly sweet, the beef chow ho fun is amazing with noodles firm but again chewy and sprouts are generously added, the bbq spare ribs sauce is a bit on the sweet side but these are cooked just so perfectly and flavored so well that being extra sweet is not an issue, and the traditional soups, if you can get them, are worth it whether finely cut tofu or fish maw, WOW! The only reason I drop it to a 4 (4.5 if I could) is what can be a teachable experience and reminder for me on the realities of human shortcomings and that’s that my housemate and I sat for a half hour seated but unserved. At no point did the only server/host and yes certainly overworked and understaffed ask if we wanted a glass of water or appetizer while waiting for a third party. However, when a family was seated after us, they had an introduction, beverages and at least some entrees served before our party had even arrived. Am I under suspicion that it’s because perhaps of my appearance in relation to all others there, yes, because she even seemed reluctant to take my card at the end of the meal like she was expecting it from my counterparts. However, it’s a reminder that we are all capable of giving and being the recipient of prejudice. Such a shame, but glad I was reminded of what others face far more frequently than I as it truly impacts the dining out experience. Regardless of this one off, I recommend to anyone looking to eat worthwhile Chinese food, patron and be generous with Wild Garlic. The food scene in the vicinity isn’t great but the ownership team at Wild Garlic even in the midst of one server/host managing all tables and to go orders which is exhausting and commendable brings greatness...
Read moreThis restaurant is a gem in Renton's Fairwood neighborhood. Recommend this place for delicious, authentic Chinese food! My mom even comes up from Pierce County just for this restaurant - and y'all know how hard it can be to impress a Chinese mama.
Tonight we ordered the mapo tofu (we order this almost every time) a fish and fried tofu dish (first time trying and it was SO good), the garlic eggplant, and the Mongolian beef (not pictured be we ate it too fast).
Everything was stand out! My favorite was probably the fish and tofu dish that came out sizzling, but it's honestly hard to pick a favorite.
Also you like eggplant, seriously don't skip out on the eggplant! I’m salivating thinking about this dish.
They of course also have the standard orange chicken and such. They also have an awesome lunch combo with those American-Chinese options that we sometimes get too. It's also very good.
Sit down service comes with free tea. Unless you're getting a combo, you do have to order rice separately with entrees.
Service is pretty basic but very fast - our drinks were never empty. What more can you ask for when just looking to eat delicious food.
Atmosphere is fine - clean and a good temperature, warm lighting.
Highly recommend eating family style so you can try more dishes! I don't bother reviewing places often but really love the food at this place. Five...

First, the crab Rangoon is the best I've had, with onions and pepper blended in for a great flavor profile..
The MooGoo GaiPan was flavorful and veggies were cooked exactly how they should be. Those 2 things would get them a 4 or 5 star from me.... But I was met with a surprise when I ordered...
They don't include rice. This turned a $10 order into a $12 order... Not the best foot to start off on.... with a single order of crab Rangoon, and tax, it bumped it to over $20....
Then, when I was handed my bag, I immediately noticed how light it was.. also not good... when I got home, and unboxed everything.... It looked like I had been given lunch portions.
The service was very good, and the lady that took my order was very nice and welcoming.
If they had a little bigger portions, I'd probably give them a 5....But with small portions, and over $20 for a single order, it's hard to suggest them. Most Chinese restaurants that I order from, even if they're around the same price, leave me with leftovers... This place left me with none, and borderline still hungry... again, hard to justify for the price, even though the quality of the food is top notch.
To summarize, food is great but in small quantities, and you pay a premium for it. if you're okay paying more to get quality with less quantity, this...
